Ammunition Question

My granddad is giving me his 30-06 Browning BAR that he hasn't used since the late 80's. He has two boxes of ammunition from the last time he hunted, which was over 20 years ago. I've shot them at targets to sight in the scope and they shoot just fine, but was wondering if they would be alright for deer. Will they still penetrate and kill? And also, are cartridges from back then designed different and now become obsolete? They are around 180 grain Remington's. I would like to know if I should just buy some new ammo. Thanks for your opinion.

I would pick up a 1 new box and hit the range one more time and shoot 2 or 3 rounds and see if it's patterning the same. Gun powder (if i'm correct) breaks down over time and might still fire but could be preforming at a lower level. If you buy a new box and give it a comparrison you will know for sure.

and like always.....better safe then sorry.
