250savage
So last year I got a pic of a buck with one of his antlers growing down instead of up.. and then earlier this year I got a DIFFERENT buck with the same problem.. is this genetic? or just strange bucks. take a look... gobblerroller
I would think it would be genetic. If I could, I would shoot these deer so they don't pass those genes along to future bucks.
Texan_Til_I_Die
I've got trailcam pics of one like that. In my deer's case, I think it was injury.
dbHunterNY
it's hard to say. usually it's injury related i think. regardless it's something you'll want to take or cull or whatever you want to call it.
wtnhunt
it's hard to say. usually it's injury related i think. Think those like the ones above probably are injury related. Seen several trail cam pics of bucks play/sparring while the antlers were vulnerable.
dbHunterNY
what i'm not sure of is if they get an injury to cause that, does the next years set of antlers grow normal? haven't had the chance to follow one years after an abnormality like that is spotted. wtnhunt
what i'm not sure of is if they get an injury to cause that, does the next years set of antlers grow normal? Some studies out there on that. Read that the injury can show up in future antler growth, but does not always happen. Also some good information out on deer body injuries and how the antler will show the deformity on the oppsite side, called contralateral condition.
