muggs
I know a little about cars, but this one has me stumped. My girlfriend has a Corolla. She had been hearing a constant noice coming from driver side wheel. I drove with her,and it sounded like a bad wheel bearing, So I jacked it up and rotated it...tons of vibration and also, there was a lot of play in the tire when I grabbed it by the top and bottom and shook it. Bearing for sure.... So, we took it up to the shop, they drove it, confirmed it was the driver side bearing and replaced it. Trouble is, she just texted me. Now she's getting a rumbling noise right around 30 mph coming from the same wheel etc... The noise stops at 35-40 mph. The bearing was replaced Monday, and this is a new noise she wasn't hearing before. I don't think it's tire pressure related. So, I'm thinking it's something to do with suspension/linkage. I appreciate any help...I'm at a loss.

LETMGROW
Couldn't say I have never seen a bad bearing out of the box. Get it back where you had it fixed and get it checked out. Better safe than sorry. Check the lug nuts before you go anywhere just to be sure! Lynn Edited October 13, 2011 by LETMGROW

Lynn Very true, AC Delco had a bad bunch of bearings for the Impala's, Buick Century, Venture/Montana vans and a few others that use the same bearings. Customer would come in to get their wheel bearing changed and a couple months later they'd come back and the wheel bearing would be loose and making noise again. Those Corolla's are the same as our "Pontiac" Vibe (Toyota Matrix). They are a pressed in style which means the whole spindle has to be removed, hub pressed out of the bearing and bearing pressed out of the spindle. Whereas the GM's are a whole hub assembly with the bearing in it, the bearing cannot be changed by itself. The pressed in style are kind of tricky and take some patience to change. If the center race of the bearing isn't supported when the hub is installed into the new bearing it'll ruin the bearing. Not pointing fingers at the shop that changed it but it is a possibility that it wasn't installed correctly.

LETMGROW
It's kind of amazing when so many try to help someone out you don't hear a thing back about how they made out. Lynn
