School me on tablets

I'm thinking of getting my wife a tablet for Christmas this year. ( I know...already Christmas shopping.I normally wait till the week before.) I know absolutely zero about these things. Not wanting to spend a ton of money on one since the kids will end up using it too. We definately need one with 3G or 4G data plan since we don't have internet service at the house. Any input or reviews from people that have one would be great.

sorry, i'm only familiar with the ones moses brought down... lol

LOL. Wiesenheimer.

Here's the deal...we want to get the internet at the house, but only have two providers for our location. One is $60 a month, and the other is cheaper, but a company that I absolutely will not deal with after previous issues. (I won't mention any names Charter.) So, I can spend $500 and get an IPad or other tablet and pay like $30 a month for wireless broadband service. Another option (which I also no little about) is to upgrade my wifes cell phone and plan to a smart phone with wireless broadband and supposedly you can "tether" the phone to a tablet or laptop to get internet on it, which I have no clue how much a month that is.

This is giving me a headache.

Here is my .02 on the issue....

An Ipads are the way to go..... Yeah they are $500 but they are the way to go. They have been out and proven while others are trying to get into the game but can't.....

However a tablet is really only useful if you have an internet connection. At&t offers a monthly data plan for the Ipad.

So the first question would be how good well is at&t's service at your location?

The same question would be true with your wive's cell phone.

Then if you do add internet to your wives phone is how much data will you get and how much will you use. Most cell phone companies do not offer a unlimited data plan.....and when you go over your bills goes up rather quickly.
