THE BIG NASTY
so tonight i connected an arrow to my first deer (a doe)... so i will try to keep this short,15 yards perfectly broadside but i was running out of good shooting light and did not see the arrow after i released. but did hear inpact and watched her run off (i had tunnel vision and do not know what she did upon inpact)waited a good 15 min and checked for my arrow and found it, now this is where my question comes in. The arrow had a small amount of blood around the fletching and had dark hair on the fletching as well and was just coverd in what i think is fat,and the arrow did not have anytype of foul order or any smell at all.WHERE did i hit her at?i could not find anytype of blood trail and backed out and goin out first thing in the morning. backwoodsbowhunter
I may not be right but I had a buddy with the same issue before. And just so happened that he shot the deer right through the back straps. This won't kill the deer just make it really sore. He ended up seeing the deer several weeks later. But I would still go out and look like I said I may be wrong. Keep us updated. Best of luck!
Ravin R10 man
it is also possible you may have hit low...doubt you will have a blood trail... good luck
MUDRUNNER
Possibly a liver hit. If it is, she should be less than 200 yards from where she was hit. Hope you can track her down this morning!
Tominator
it is also possible you may have hit low...doubt you will have a blood trail... good luck I agree with Martin. Sounds like you hit brisket. That's a very iffy shot. If you got into a lung you might find her, but if you just hit low, she's probably going to survive. redkneck
Could be almost anywhere really. When you say impact, i am guessing a "whack" rather than a "thud". Very important to listen for the difference when you shoot, as well do your absolute best in listening and coursing the last sound you can possibly hear as they run away. Some pretty lethal shots can also leave some crappy blood trails, esp when you don't get an exit wound, and when that happens, it's always nice to know about where the deer ran to. Good luck to you, honestly you never know until you start tracking.
Rhino
With the information you've given, it sounds like you hit backstrap to me too. Could have been low but I lean more toward the high hit with the brown hair on the fletchings & lack of blood. Like John (redkneck) said though...it could just about be anywhere though. abrown
I'd say brisket shot. Dark hair would be more on the lower chest than the back. I've shot a doe like that, didn't kill her, then shot a buck about 15 minutes later, hit him a little higher, found him 2 weeks later, obviously I clipped something in the lower chest. I'd look around water, alot of times with a lethal shot they'll head towards water!
RangerClay
I hit a doe high one time and just clipped 1 lung. Being a high hit and a slow bleeder there was almost no blood and what little I had ran out after 30 yards. Backed out then came back and did a grid search. I found her dead a 150 yards later. Take a friend or a dog with you when you go back. Remember a high hit will take longer to show blood because they are filling up. Straight Shooter
I know its a late reply but more than likely you went through the brisket, always alot of fat and minimal blood and with the dark hair it is usually black dark hair in that area. Its not a fatal hit and you may be fortunate enough to get another crack at her. Good luck to you!
earnhardts12000
sounds like leg shot but not sure they may be right high shot
