Rub lines

Before the rut gets rolling, hunting a rub line may prove successful, but I believe that most of the rubs were made during the hours of darkness. Thus, to be successful one has to be as close to the bedding area as possible, without disturbing it, in order to catch a glimpse of the buck during shooting hours. It is also imperative that one hunt a rub line leading away from the bedding area in the evening and on leading back to the bedding area in the morning, although on occasion deer will travel the same trail morning and evening. Once the rut gets rolling, just "hunt" the does as rubs will just be random then.

Rub lines are sign posts that say "Here I am"...kind of like graffiti on my desks at school.

They let me know which areas I should focus on (those with really large rubs near really awful thick cover). When I do hunt "them", I will try to position my treestand on the downwind side of a hot trail coming out of the cover...

Every good buck I have seen or harvested in this manner have been following does or coming to break up fights with other bucks (that one ignored my rattling but showed up in less than 30 seconds to the real thing)...
