wtnhunt
Guess I am a cynic on the effectiveness of the flu vaccines. In my 42 years of life I can remember only a handful of times I have gotten the flu shot and I do not recall it making any difference in whether or not I got sick or how sick I got, even though it is not directly flu related I think one of the worst years I have ever had bronchitis was actually in a year I took the flu shot. Of the times I took the shot I think I had mild flulike symptoms from getting the shot once.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Got mine Oct 3. I too work in a hospital so I try to take every precaution I can. Plus they're free...
ruttinbuc
The last flu shot I got was before a hunt Illinois with ildrhntr (John C). I was never so sick in my life for that week. Should I get one or just keep with the vitamin c....?
Strut10
No freakin' way !!! Got a flu shot once in my life.............on the insistance of my RN mother. I missed work with the flu 3 times between Thanksgiving and New Year that year. That was a good 15 years ago. Probably have not missed work for the flu more than twice since then. Turkeygirl
Well from what the infection control nurse told me, flu shots now a days aren't suppose to "make" you sick because it's an inactive form. Some do get sick, some don't. But you have to consider you don't know when you were exposed to an illness prior to getting vaccinated and coincidentally you get sick. But some do have allergic reactions to the flu shot so really anything can be possible.
stevebeilgard
in the service, i got flu shots in spring and fall. 8 shots, and 8 times i was sick with the flu the next days. since 1970, no flu shots and flu maybe 8 times. let's see: 8 shots in 4 years = 8 times i get the flu no shots in 40 years = maybe 8 times i get the flu. hmmmm i'll take my chances, thanks. Hunt or be Hunted
Flu shots helps you catch the flu...I'll pass!
redkneck
I should get them every year but generally only get them when they come to work to give them. I have had them in the past and still had flu, and other times when everyone in my family got it but me. They're not 100% effective nor do they claim to be but i feel i'm way better off with them than without
Shaun_300
Never got one, never will get one. I'm the type that hardly ever gets sick *knock on wood*. I bet it's been at least 5 years since I've had the flu. I'll take my chances too!

m gardner
I took a chance and got a flu shot 14 years ago and was down with the flu for 2 weeks that year. Seems we got a different strain than what they immunized for or so the story goes. Anything the government is invloved in I choose to pass on now. No shots for me either. PotashRLS
Sorry, don't believe they work that well since they only cover a VERY small portion of the strains that are actually out there.
Leo
Got mine yesterday and the pneumonia vaccine today. I'm allergic to Levaquin and Cipro so I'd rather NOT get sick.

fly
Got mine a couple weeks ago. Mandatory since I work in a hospital here in Illinois. The flu shot doesn't cause the flu (it really can't). The shot is a killed virus. The vaccine may not prevent the flu though. Researchers around the world make a guess on the most likely three virus's that will cause the symptoms we know as influenza here in the US. Some years they guess wrong. There are thousands of virus's out there. Many just cause the common cold, but some cause worse symptoms = influenza. I hope they got it right this year.
