Benjinail
The last picture is him in velvet. I'm thinking he broke this horn off in early stages of velvet and the end result is how it turned out. What do you think?Appears to be a older deer with the sway back and blocky chest but I'm thinking of letting him walk to hopefully let the horn grow back right next year.Think he is to old of a deer and that he will be going down hill or what? Thanks in advance. wtnhunt
Mature deer for sure. Dunno about letting him walk, if he will show the injury next year or not or whether he will be better, about the same, or worse would be hard to say. Suppose if I had enough ground that I knew he would make it and I actually saw him and got a real good look at his body and decided at that time he was not more than 5.5 I would probably let him walk. Good luck with whichever you decide.
gobblerroller
Depends. If he's not that old, I would let him have a chance at recovering, and passing on his genes during the rut. If he's really old, I'd take him. Especially with the bow.

seamus
it would depend on being in the moment with this one, you would have to see the injury to really determine since he's pretty borderline in my eyes.
hoosierhunter
Your a better man than me if you can let a 6.5 year old deer walk regardless of rack size. For the average hunter you have a better chance of killing a booner than you do a deer that old.
wyohunter
you already have a bruiser buck this year, i would let him walk and see him next year
