killer711
i was going out to hang a game cam and i took my 12g just in case and sure enough about 100 yards way there where 3 turkeys, 2 shells, no call, and my heart pounding. i close up about 15 yards and they started to get real nervous. one of them started to go so i click the safty off and picked out the biggest one and shot from about 80 to about 85 yards:bang:. he bunched off but started to run. so i put it on him and pull the trigger again. once again he bunched up but keep running, and we never found him. we have about a 1 mile square and those turkeys kinda just stick around there. will he stay or will he leave and never come back? Strut10
You shot at a turkey at 80-85 yards with a shotgun ?????? Am I reading your post correctly ?? At that distance, it doesn't matter if they come back or not. You'll shoot a lot of shotgun shells to cleanly take a turkey at 80-85 yards. Generally a few shots fired will not drive turkeys to vacate an entire area permanently. However, birds crippled from long distances may run off to die under a brushpile and never be seen again. dbHunterNY
yea next time try to say within 30 yards. 40 at most. assuming they aren't wounded which you probably hit more than one at that distance. they will come back.
