MichiganHunter
My german short hair is 14 years old now and has been having a hard time holding her food down, well we took her into the vet basically expecting the bad news, well she has a large liver tumber and it's pushing her insides all over the place. She can still eat just in smaller amounts, but the vet said that at some point it is likly to cause extream pain and internal bleeding. She is also having some hard time seeing and walking but still gets able to get around. So we've had to sit down and talk, we've decided that monday we will take her in and say good buy to a long time hunting buddy and longer time friend. "Be a good girl shadow, and I hope we are making the right choice for you."

wtnhunt
Sorry to hear you had to have your dog put down, real tough to do especially if you have any kids. We had to have a family dog put down probably 7 years ago, was pretty tough. Had to have a horse put down last year, had the horse longer than I had my wife and he taught both the wife and my oldest daughter to ride. Like Steve says though it is the right thing to do when they are in pain.
dbHunterNY
as said today is the day for a tough but right choice. to keep her around in extreme pain just to have a little more time would be selfish. you're doing the right thing. redkneck
That's bad I know. Always tough to put a good old dog down. Best thing to do (IMHO) is to go out and get another to take its place. They have short lives (dont we all) and I guess it's better to get another hunting companion in the making. Got one just like she was. Great idea IMO.

hunterbobb
Sorry to hear you had to make that decision. It was the right one. Can't let the dog suffer. You have my sympathy
Flintlock1776
Been there done that just two weeks ago with our Collie/Shepherd. OUr condolences. We went to pet finder.com and are discussing taking on a rescue dog. Good luck dealing with what is ahead, it won't be easy but try and focus on how lucky your dog was to have your family for 14 years.
