Heating Up...

Skunked in the morning, so I opted to move for the evening hunt, even though the wind wasn't ideal for that spot.

On the walk in I noticed a ton of tracks, and a ton of droppings in this area. The corn is really holding them.

Half hour into the sit a fawn, bleating the whole way walked right under me then milled around, then crossed the creek to meet up with 2 button bucks. 3 fawns and no momma to be seen.

Half hour later I caught 2 deer trotting across the field to the treeline. They got spooked by a guy giving a hay ride to some kids. :D

Ten minutes later they stepped out of the treeline and started heading my way. They got within 200 yards and popped their heads up, looking in my direction right at the same time I heard leaves crunching, sure enough, here came another deer, this time it had antlers. Nose to the ground a 2.5 year old 8pt, probably would have scored 110 to 115 was walking next to the creek. He passed right under me, crossed the creek, got up the other bank and caught sight of the doe, even though it looked like she was trying to hide in some corn, lol. The buck trotted over to her to which she trotted off. He put his nose to the ground where she was standing, then bird dogged her back into the corn. Five minutes later the doe came out of the corn and headed my way with her fawn in tow, but alas, the only deer I wanted to shoot tonight, was about the only one that never gave me a shot.

Should get better in the next week or so.

For what it's worth Chris...got an email from Barry yesterday around lunch. He was anxious to get back in a tree so his note was short & sweet. He said it was real slow on the 30th. He didn't even see a deer that day...Gene saw a couple of young bucks and their buddy Ed saw a few does. Yesterday morning Barry saw 39 deer including 7 bucks, Gene saw 14 deer including 5 bucks, and their buddy Ed saw 25 deer including 9 bucks. Sounds like it just turned hot up there.
