gobblerroller
I had seen this buck on opening day of muzzleloader season but passed him up. My Grandaddy (who shot the deer), has instilled in me QDM and letting the bucks with smaller racks go. Long story short, I had this buck cross the powerline I was hunting on Saturday morning but didn't shoot. About an hour later, he chased a doe in front of my Grandaddy who shot him. He thinks this a 4.5 year old deer and was not going to get any bigger, but I disagree. He had a really big body but still had growing to do on his headgear. What do you guys think? dbHunterNY
not sure down there in GA. here a 4.5 yr old buck is close to 175 pounds or more. that doesn't look like it. the characteristics of it's head and nose make me think it's older than 2.5 yrs old though. gobblerroller
I think he is around 2.5 as well. I think he would take that bullet back, but he can't and it will be good eating nevertheless.
dbHunterNY
if i had to guess i'd say 3.5 but like i said i'm not too familiar with deer that far south. i do know that some who follow bucks in the midwest see huge jumps between 4.5 and 6.5 yrs old, but there aren't many places in the country that typically allow deer to live that long. wtnhunt
Think that is possibly a 3.5 year old Ga deer, but maybe only 2.5, live pics would be better. Have a biologist look at the teeth if he still has the deer, or you can age them yourself with an age chart.
WHISKEYSWAMP
looks like a 2.5 year old to me.

Rhino
Even if your gradfather is right about the buck being 4.5...they will sure add more bone to their headgear at 5.5 & 6.5 and less intake goes to body growth. One thing I learned when I started hunting the midwest is a 3.5 year old buck there has about the same size body as a 4.5 year old buck here in MS. Georgia deer are probably about the same size as our MS deer. For what it's worth, from the pics I'd say he looks to be about the size of a 3.5 year old MS buck.
