OHbuckeye1
I noticed in my game camera picture my jacket and gloves look white, my question is will the deer see it this way and if so how do I fix this problem? The camera is an Infared Moultrie M80. The pic was taken just before dark but light enough outside to not have to use a flashlight.
gobblerroller
You're saying that the jacket is actually camo? Because it didn't do that to your pants.
wtnhunt
You're saying that the jacket is actually camo? Because it didn't do that to your pants. Was going to say the same thing. Your hat and facemask show up too. Were these clothes all washed the same? Not saying it is or isn't, but possible the jacket is showing up uv brighteners, bout all I could figure. Wash it with sportswash or another comparable for hunting clothes detergent, and YES I think if your camera sees it the deer will too. dbHunterNY
maybe what william said. also what kind of material is your jacket and gloves compared to your other camo (pants for example)? i've seen a lot of footage where top hunters camo looks like that on camera at low light. material might be a factor. maybe a weather resistant coating or polyester blend? OHbuckeye1
The jacket is Camo made by Winchester, it is made of 100% Polyester Polyurethane Lamination. The Pants are 100% Cotton. Edited October 31, 2011 by OHbuckeye1
92xj
Can you post a picture of that exact jacket in day light? Somethings not adding up for me here....

92xj
Here it is. Wow, I think...well I know...if it were me, I would be retiring that jacket to the fire pit drinking clothes pile and getting a new hunting jacket and gloves. Well said. That's gotta be UV brighteners in the jacket. I bet the deer really appreciate it though......

The Pants are 100% Cotton. so yea i'd buy that sport wash stuff to kill UV brighteners and then see if that makes the white go away on the camera. you can use it to wash your hunting clothes anyway... i still think it's the material though. deer don't see infrared. again congrats on the wall hanger! toddyboman
great to hear it didn't bother that buck....but wow that is crazy. I would wash it in the UV soap and see what it looks like then. Congrats on a dandy!!

True deer don't see infrared, however some authorities on deer have shown in studies that deer do see uv which we cannot see, dunno how it might differ from daylight and dark with a jacket glowing like that. Think that jacket is possibly showing up uv brighteners with the ir led's, but that is just my guess.

Stinger-Hunter
I'm going out and buying a white jacket!! LOL. Great buck. I would toss that jacket or use it while butchering that thing. Never trust infared. Take a pic with black and white camera - that's what the deer see (with a little bit of blue, I think). Either way, I'd be happy with that deer, elated, actually. natethebowhunter
i laid all my hunting clothes out and used my trail cam to take an infrared pic of them, only the clothes that are "water proof" and "water resistant" appeared to be white. they have all been washed in the UV free detergent. and on my waterproof boots the sole and outside of the boot did not appear white, but the bulk of the boot did appear white. im not sure what it is but i think it has to do with waterproof coating. OHbuckeye1
I washed it in UV Killer and it still looks white, crazy......I don't know the answere lol.
dbHunterNY
thanks for follow up... i think it's just do to the material and lamination, like i said. deer don't see it like you do in the picture though, so i wouldn't worry about. although i'm sure you're not with shooting that wall hanger. lol
fly
I wonder where your jacket was actually made? Winchester is an American name, but unfortunately the company has sold out. A buddy of mine works for Winchester and make primers at the IL based plant (at least for now- they are moving the plant to Mississippi). He told me that Winchester still makes BP primers, but that's about it. They sell the name to other companies to use. Just to add some credibility to his story I looked it up online and it seems his story would be accurate. Not so sure about products with the Winchester name these days.
