Rhino
Some of you may recall these trail cam pics I posted previously. It's the best buck I've caught on cams so far this year. Last weekend I pulled 2 cams I had about 1/2 mile from where I caught this buck in velvet and caught some pics of him (including this one) near one of my bow stands. Saturday aftgernoon the wind is perfect for my stand that's ~75 yards from where I got this TC pic. Slow morning seeing just a young 6 point. Left everyting in the tree except my HS system. I'm back in the tree around 3:30. After watching 7 deer light is fadding fast. It's about time to start gathering when I hear a deer crunching leaves. Suddenly he appears...oh my...it's HIM. He's facing me...gotta wait...he gets behind a branch full of leaves...impatiently waiting for him to step out...he does...I draw turn the arrow loose the string lightly hits my arm guard making just enough noise to warn him to duck quick. I watch my arrow pass right over the top of the ducking buck. Clean miss...I wanted to throw up! Shaking now begins with a sick feeling...can't climb down. I wait...then begin to gather...climb down...check my arrow stuck in the ground. Yep...all I killed was dirt. Way to give him a warning the arrow's coming to make sure he ducks Al. You big dummy! :hammer2:
redkneck
Yeah, but crap Al, I would be a nervous wreck if that stud passed under me. A buck of that caliber is next to non-existent for my neck of the woods! Man he's a beast, I sure hope he has short term memory loss for you, I would sure be sick too. At least it was a clean miss, maybe you'll get to post a tailgate pic before the season is out.
ChrisSeb53
So unfortunate! I'm sorry to hear the story end that way. At least you saw him! Who knows, maybe you will get another crack at him. Better luck next time.
Rhino
A buck of that caliber is next to non-existent for my neck of the woods! Man he's a beast It's the same way here John...biggest one I've gotten on a trail cam or seen in our neck of the woods on this side of the state too. I sure hope I get the misses out of me before I head to Kansas. By the way...the young buddy of mine I mentioned in my old trail cam post got a look at him on my stand where I got the velvet pics. He never got inside the 80 yard line but my buddy was so shook up watching him that he said he didn't know if he would have been able to shoot or not. LMBO at his story. I can sure understand! He really blew up...but what blew me away more than anything else was his mass compared to last year. Here's one of last years pics. I saw him once last year during early bow season. hoosierhunter
Man that's tough, but it's early and there's plenty of time to even the score. I have a 160 class tormenting me up here. I've had him inside 100 yards 3 times and twice inside 40 and can't kill him.

Tominator
Oh man, that's heartbreaking buddy. Hopefully you didn't spook him too bad. Hope you get another crack at him. Wish we had deer like that in Ohio.
dbHunterNY
I understand Al. A buck 30" smaller than that would make the local paper around here and be legendary. lol It's still possible that you'll still get a crack at him. He may hang around a different section of woods or something, but i wouldn't say he'll leave the county. Keep your hopes up. it's not over yet. ...btw how old do you think he is? Rhino
...btw how old do you think he is? Had lots of pics last year and figured he had to be 5.5 then so if I was right he's 6.5 now. No it's not over...he won round one and he only trotted off so I don't think he was spooked too bad. I was too shook up to climb down for about 5 minutes so I doubt he was around when I quietly eased down from the stand to check my arrow. He may be nocturnal till the rut now but I have a new stand set to hunt him where nobody has ever hunted. I'm not the only one that knows about him though so we'll see what happens this year. So far he's doing about the same thing he did last year when I lost track of him the 2nd week of October. Located him again last year in late November close to where I missed him Saturday. That information will sure help this year assuming he does what has allowed him to survive in the past.
