1st archery buck

Well, it looks like the third year is the charm! I finally got my first archery buck after passing on a few younger bucks. I had all of last week off of work, and spent it at my grandparents place in NW OK. It was warm and deer activitiy was slow at best, so when the cold front rolled through on Tuesday I gave in and popped a doe with the blackpowder out of one of our box blinds. Wednesday afternoon found me back in my favorite treestand, and the deer were up and moving by 3:30 p.m. When I walked in, three does tucked back in the timber winded me and cleared the wheat field of deer. As sunset rolled around I hadn't seen a deer since walking in. As I stood up to stretch a bit I hear something crashing through the brush to my left, headed my way. The rest is pretty much a blur, it happened SO fast, but this should sum it up: buck comes crashing in, walks down trail, stops in shooting lane @ 20 yds, squeeze the trigger, and he takes a step as the arrow flies. It's a kill shot, but too far back for me to be comfortable with it, much less pleased. I head for the truck as quietly and quickly as I can, not wanting to spook or push the buck. About 9:30 I returned with my hunting partner, who is just short of amazing at following blood trails. By 11:30 we have located the buck bedded down but still very much alive, so we back out and head to the house for a couple hours of sleep. We're back in the woods Thursday morning to pick up the trail where the buck had bedded. Sure enough, my partner finds him laying about 75 yards down the trail from where we last spotted him. :toot:
