Rhino
Glad to hear you're OK after that experience Mike. Glad you called them about it too. Like others have said...thank the Lord. If you've had just one of those type of experiences you've had enough. I've had more than one over the years. One wounded me...real bad...the other, I was fortunate like you. The older I get the less I like climbers. Over the past few years I've been adding more ladders, mainly for firearm stands but I'm closing in on 58 in a couple of months. I still prefer hang-on stands for bowhunting but if it requires a strap I always have an insurance ratchet strap on it to...2 is better than one IMO...I like chains a lot now too. Hard to break them. ruttinbuc
Thanks guys. It is much appreciated. I got the new top yesterday and put it o use this morning. Never was I so conscious climbing and descending the tree. The new seat is quite comfortable, too. I also am going with ladders and fixed stands, but still use the climber for the sign I find during the season. I also hunt the ground in those situations where it is feasible. As fall fades away that gets more difficult.
swohiodave
I slid down about 5 foot in a tree one day when i hit an icy shot while hunting after a snow. Another time I had the bottom drop on me, glad it was tied. Always stay attached to that tree! Glad you are typing now!

RangerClay
I'm just reading this for the first time. I know about some of those emotions when I had my treestand sabotaged last year. I still think about everytime I climb up. I'm glad that the Big Guy was looking over you that day. Hope you heal quickly.
Canuck2
Holy moley, Mike! I, too, am just reading this thread for the first time and I'm shaking my head. You had one nasty close call. Sure glad you extricated yourself from the situation successfully. I used a climber a few times one season but that's the only time I've ever used a tree stand. Being elevated doesn't bother me but I just like hunting from the ground. With incidents like this happening, perhaps I'm fortunate to have avoided some potential danger. This seems to have been a bit of a fluke, Mike, as I know you take great care to ensure your equipment is in top shape. Keep on with your adventures confidently. ruttinbuc
Thanks again guys. Used the stand tonight and worked up quite a sweat in this late, late summer, lol. I should have got some things done around here instead of listening to November cicadas and watching confused mosquitoes. Didn't see deer until dark. They showed up in my headlights on the way home along the road. Gaining more confidence each time with the stand, but still a bit leery. In a way that is a good thing as it has me check everything to be sure there are no more surprises at any of my sets.

Newarcher
Get yourself a Summit stand...no bolts on it. I have a goliath and will never hunt out of anything else but a Summit. Glad you are okay. New
