natethebowhunter
up until this year (from talking to my dad and grandpa), there has not been a single coyote seen while hunting our property in the last 35 years... well this year a slightly different story. About a month ago i was out hunting and noticed a strong decrease in deer sightings from the previous week, sure enough 2 hours into the hunt i spot a coyote running through my woods. Went out the next week and saw deer like usual. then yesterday expecting some good rutting behavior and to see lots of deer, i didnt see a single deer for 3 hours(unusual), then came the lone coyote.. he ran past and didnt give me a shot, so i took out the turkey call and squealed into it like a dying rabbit, sure enough the coyote came running back 100 mph, i stopped him at 50 yards and let him have the rage. One less coyote out there now. Has anybody else noticed a dramatic decline in deer sighting because of coyotes? i would think the deer wouldnt be that scared of a 40 pound dog? to the point they disappear? i just find it weird
fladawg
Same thing here, this is the worst year i've seen...I've seen more Yote's this year than any,i've seen them up to five in a pack...Durin bow and muzzy i could'nt get them close enuff, now gen gun has open i'm hope'n to drop a few of them. But my deer have vanished, this year i have only gotten a pic of one buck.I've only seen one deer since season started in September. One weekend durin muzzy i counted ten yote's,on different occassion's,they were to far out or i was in truck come'n in or go'n out.Durin bow season a couple year's ago i seen 5 or 6 of them chase'n a full grown deer. They were strung out behind it,couple of them were rite on heel's and the rest were strung out behind it.Came bye me so fast i could'nt tell what sex the deer was. wtnhunt
Where you see one yote, be assured there are plenty more around you don't see. They may run deer out temporarily, yotes will run in packs and when they run through a woods they can push deer just like dogs do. Congrats on the yote with the bow. Congrats on the yote with the bow. yup... what he said. a deer isn't really afraid of one 40 pound yote.... but 10 of them yea. when they run from one, it's because there might be half a dozen more just over the crest of the hill. mikewink
For every one you see there is bound to be numerous more you aren't seeing. Coyotes will change the travel and feeding patterns of deer for sure. Very rarely will you not see a deer run away from a coyote. Good job on nailing the yote! What did you think of the smell of that dog? Stink?
natethebowhunter
certainly had a foul odor to him, went home and washed my hunting clothes again just to be sure i got it off me lol. ive only seen solo coyotes so far, and its only the days i physicall saw one that my hunting was really bad. just gotta hope they stay away for alittle while for me
fladawg
Up till this year my think'n about them kowyote's was if their that bad in your (mine) area, well want they follow the game? At some point in time(hopefully sooner)want it turn around. So if they've chase'd or spooked deer off, they will follow game to ajoining property and in turn spook'em back your way?...Let me no if i'm not make'n any cent's...Still gotta knock'em down when i can, anybody got any kowyote recipes?...Ha!... mikewink
Best coyote recipe I know of is a Smith & Wesson M&P AR 15 .223 flavored with a 55 grain topping. Finished up with a good helping of heck yeah!
Texan_Til_I_Die
Yotes are thick as fleas where I hunt, and I still see plenty of deer. But...those deer are used to seeing them every day. In fact, I've seen the does run off coyotes several times. I think most of the deer predation around here happens when the fawns are young, or when there's an old, injured or sick deer.

Have watched a doe chase off a yote during our fawning season here as well.
Stinger-Hunter
Coyotes are getting bad. You can hear them (lots of them). This year is my first year of SERIOUS coyote hunting. Have it all set up. Can't wait.
