Went to work this morning and after getting there the wife emailed me and told me that she forgot to tell me she was busy the rest of the week and would be gone this weekend so I would have to watch the boys so hunting would be out of the question until next week. I think she waited until I got to work on purpose. So I made a point to get out of work early, headed to the woods. My camo was at home so I hit the tree in my work clothes.

The wind was a pretty stiff wind out of the WSW at about 10-15 mph. I made a last minute decision to sit in a stand that I haven't sat in 4 years. The wind died down as the sun went below the horizon. I was settled into a big cedar on the edge of a freshly picked corn field. I had a young doe come out early but got kicked out of the field by two partridge. Shortly later the deer started poring out into the field. I saw this buck coming in from behind me, he hung up right under my stand for about 25 minutes. I think he was licking my steps, I could have dropped my arrow on him.

He stepped out into the field, I let him get about 5 yards away. I put my 20 yard pin high on his back and released. My arrow hit right where I was aiming. I took out 1 lung and his heart. My arrow burried in the ground right under him. He ran about 35 yards into the field, stopped turned in a circle and went down. No tracking job needed.

Not my biggest buck but, my best buck with my bow. Both, my boys were excited. Both wanted to help with the field dressing. Got to love when the young ones show so much interest in the outdoors.
