dbHunterNY
when my parents, brother, and i lived at my parent's previous house it had a hillside with a couple fields and a pond out back. deer could be seen out back all the time. during rifle season he saw a buck on top of the hill out in the field. shot it with his 30-06 Remington 7600 pump. buck dropped and didn't move at all. it was down so he thought. put his gun back, got a knife, and headed out to take care of the buck. well walking on the way up the hill he looked up and saw the buck. not laying there but standing there. looked down at only a knife in his hand and then the buck ran off seeming not shot at all. another time he had a buck with it's head low and kneck extended looking his way. he shot it with his 30-06 and the buck didn't even finch it seemed. he knew he must have hit it. the buck started shaking it's head over and over again and then started to walk off. dumbfounded he settled the crosshairs on the buck again and then dropped it. the buck got the first 150 gr soft point lodged up its nose. i remember as a young boy feeling the outside bridge of it's nose and felt the bullet. ...there's a couple of the goods ones i got. Texan_Til_I_Die
Not much to tell yet from this season. Bow season ran the entire month of October and I saw exactly zero shooters. Did get one hog with my bow. Rifle season opened last weekend and Saturday we had a dust storm blow in. Saturday night we had an earthquake. Sunday was beautiful. And Monday we had another dust storm. I saw one decent 8 point locked down with a doe, but other than that just slickheads and teenagers. Saw about a dozen different bucks total. No response yet to the rattling, which is a bit unusual. By now, I can usually rattle up 2 or 3 every morning. Leaving today at noon to hunt through Sunday. Hoping for some decent weather and some responses to my rattling. It's my favorite way to hunt.
dbHunterNY
...more current story from me will have to wait until after one of these weekends in Nov. I've got a 3 day weekend starting tomorrow, followed by two four day weekends. hoping that's enough to get things done.

JimT
Had another great week in at Roanoke Tar Guide Service in NC two weeks ago. I ended up with two does and this buck. Saw several other deer and was holding out for a wall hanger or I could have killed another one. I was doing the head bob at 9:50 when my buck showed up looking for a doe. Shot it at 177 yards with my Weatherby 7mm Magnum. One of the does I got was perfect. While walking into a stand the day before I jumped two deer so Neil one,of my two guides and I set up a ground blind and brushed it in just before the hunt. My wife Lynda sat with me on this set in the blind and I shot a doe about an hour and a half after we got settled in. Ate tons of great food and had a pile of laughs. Will be booking again in January for sure. I also shot a doe here in Maine. I got set up two rows in a corn field. The grass in front of it was covered with tracks so I figured I would try something new. An hour in the doe walked by at 70 yards. My freezer is full. Rhino
I sure can't complain Tim. It's been one of the best bow seasons in MS I've ever had! One afternoon I had one of my target bucks at 32 yards (140 class 8 point) while hunting a natural ground blind. When I was getting ready to draw on him a 3.5 year old buck stepped in the way. Less than a minute later they spooked from a noise to my left. I was heart broken on my 1st encounter on a 155 class 12 point I had pics of this summer and into bow season. I flat shot over him. 6 days later, the right wind, and the same treestand he gave me a 2nd chance. Here's the story. http://www.realtree.com/forums/bowhunting/107013-2nd-chance-same-buck-redemption.html
