dbHunterNY
I talked to Tim a little while ago and the morning went pretty much as John said. Mike is filming again with Tim for this hunt. The both of them were hunting out of the stand set in a hollow that you see in the pictures. John's friend Butch usually hunts the stand and said it's usually better in the morning. However, this morning was really windy with gusts at 30 mph. As John said, Tim saw 2 doe and a small buck. They all came in separate. It was so windy the one doe looked nervous. Tim thought it either was the wind or a buck tailing her. Well a buck never showed, so he figured it must have been the wind. The guys were up in the stand and as Tim stated "The wind just cut right through ya." The guys met up with John who was watching out by the road. They were headed back to John's place to have a cup of coffee, warm up, and change out some clothing. After that they were heading back to that same spot to see if things change for the evening. This time of year you never know what will be working it's way through the timber. Hopefully a shooter strolls on through. Still seems hit or miss. It doenst matter though, Coles county is the biggest sleeper county in the state...just look at the pic in my sig...John actually scored it for me...As long as your in the stand Timmy, it can happen! dbHunterNY
makes for a long day on the stand, but if you see just one deer that's a shooter in range, then that's enough. Hopefully the activity picks up a bit.
wtnhunt
Hope things pick up for you Tim. Got flash flooding and some possibly severe thunderstorms here with temps in the 60's, pretty poor conditions.

stevebeilgard
here's to another day full of hope, and hopefully full of big deer. the weather should be in today, helping matters out. now, if only the rut would swing into full gear.... Shaun_300
Hope Tim had a good day of hunting! We woke up this morning to 54 degrees at 7am, windy as heck! Cold front moved in all day with temps falling all day, it's now 28 and supposed to fall to 10 degrees overnight and a high of 28 tomorrow. I'm hoping it's just a front causing the wind that Tim is getting and once it sets in it'll settle down for him...
Hunt or be Hunted
Talked to Tim over text.He said he saw 26 deer. Bunch of bucks, Just no shooters. Sorry Tim. Illinois bucks can be stubern!
MUDRUNNER
Man, it was a tough weekend in Illinois for sure, Tim. The wind was terrible Friday and Saturday, and Sunday I got soaked from hunting in the rain for 4 hours. I actually had to switch stands for Saturday, because the little tree I was in Friday was swaying so much I was gettin nauseous. I seen two shooters bowhunting Thursday, but none the rest of the weekend. I did take a doe Saturday, so the weekend wasn't a total bust. Never really even heard that many shots around us. Will you be back for second gun season in two weeks, Tim? With the slow activity first season, I would imagine second season should be pretty good.
