What were they thinking???

This weekend my best friend's son (12 years old) was beaten by 3 teenager (15-17 years old). They were all at a community dance and the teens were teasing and picking on a girl that was at the dance. My friend's son told them to leave her alone, the teens said "Who's gonna make us?". Then they proceeded to kick, punch, and beat my son's friend, after a kick to the temple he blacked out. He has to go to the plastic surgeon today to consult about the broken bones and see what can be done there.

The really sick thing is that these teens video taped the whole thing and were trying to put it on the internet but didn't have the cables they needed to do it. I guess the cops are meeting them at school to confiscate the tape (they are suppose to be bringing it in to "show off")

If you have a minute, please send prayers that the doctor's can fix his face with a minimum of scarring. And also send some prayers for his mother because she is having all she can do to not go after these kids herself! (can't blame her, I would feel the same)

Re: What were they thinking???

Gator,

He isn't a "normal" sized 12 year old, so there is a chance that these teens didn't know how young he is. Still doesn't excuse what they did, and three on one is never fair, no matter how big the one person is.

I can't imagine kicking someone in the head while they are down, I can't even watch it in a movie. His mother is sick with worry, and is hoping that she won't have to watch the video of her son being beaten. Luckily the police are taking it very seriously and are trying to prosecute to the fullest extent!

Re: What were they thinking???

I know what used to happen when I was in school and something like that happened, but having them arresteds probably a better way to go. grin.gifA couple months ago the same thing happened in my back yard in the alley, except those 3 used a flashlight and bat to work another kid over.Nobody ever was arrested or charged for it, but if they were stupid enough to video tape it there shouldnt be much question aboyut what happened in your friends case.

Mike my kid gets picked on quite a bit to by a couple other students. Its gotten to the point where I told him that the next time one of them layed a hand on him to whoop his butt, my kids bigger than most of the others in his class but wont stick up for himself, weve called the principal and it only makes things worse. If he gets a suspension for it Im not gonna hold it against him, just to bad it comes down to that sometimes crazy.gif

My prayers are with him and his mom. My son is picked on at school too. I hope they throw those boys in jail. That's where they belong. But with the judicial system the way it is...nothing will surprise me.

I tell you what though...if my kids are EVER involved in something like that ...I will haul them to jail myself!!!!!

Re: What were they thinking???

WOW, prayers are on the way.

By all means keep your friend from going after those idiot teenagers. Let the authorities handle it. Tell her to get a good attorney too because their parents are all liable for the actions of those teenagers. I would feel the same way as your friend feels but she needs to go after them through legal channels. Let the courts render justice on them.

The bus driver even said it was not my sons fault but the school board says violence will not be tolerated.

Mike, did anything happen to the kid that did the spitting? If not I'd be having a fit. Haven't people been arrested for spitting with the worries about AIDS and such?

Prayers go out to your son's friend and his family HuntinginMaine.

Now if only the prosecutor gets aboard and does something or will they just shrug it off?

The cops can work their tails off, but it is the prosecutor that will have to file the charges and make them stick!

I hope they do and get a conviction and not just a slap on the wrist!

Read somewhere that a 12 y/o girl is in custody after killing her 9 y/o sister over a hamburger. Just don't know what to say to things like that. Will be remembering the boy you mentioned

Re: What were they thinking???

Ah man, what goes through kids heads these days? Nothing?!

Be sure to let your friends son know that he did the right thing in sticking up for that girl even though he got beat up over it. The kids that did this to him will get thiers in the future. Karma is SUCH a great thing.

Re: What were they thinking???

unreal! I hope and pray all turns out for the best.

I know one thing, if those boys that did the beating were mine, I would be carting them to the big house. there is no reasion for there actions.

now if I was the parent of the 12yo, as much as I dislike lawers, I would be getting the best, to make the boys have them pay the medical bills.

Re: What were they thinking???

Boy, Linda, unbelievable. Sounds like these children need an "old fashioned" hide tanning!

I'm not so removed from school that I can't remember the days of "after school fights". You know, meet me behind the football bleachers after school. But them days it was mono y mono, no knives, know boots, and know guns, pipes, or videotapes. It also usually ended with a teacher dragging both culprits by their ears to the priciples office.

Not today, today, we see kids gang up on the weak, like wolves, and anything is game. Violence defines the character of the youth. And if a teacher would even think to intervene (well, they'ld probably spend the next 5 years in prison and not be able to continue their careers as educators). Certainly times are changing, and they are not changing for the better. I guess the question is: is this a parent problem, or a technology problem?

Certainly prayers will be sent in your direction. I only hope our justice system can prevail.
