sskybnd
:saber: my lease borders a 20 acre piece of property that has nothing but 5 to 6 foot pine trees on it, and nothing more, well this year i put a food plot at the edge of my lease about 20 yards inside my line. ive had the land for 3 years now with no problumes, well i found out that a guy just put a trypod stand at the edge of that 20 acers right at the egde of my food plot, but on his side, i can see him from my stand, when i asked him why he put it next to my plot and corn, his only reply was he is legal and is on his property, all the hard work i had to do to clear the area for the plot makes me wish i hadnt done it, yes i have killed 3 deer from that stand 2 does and an 8 point, but im feeling like my hard work is going to benifet this guy when im not in my stand feeling like i should just go and till up the plot, and put out deer be gone to try and keep the deer out of my area. what would you do
The_Kat
I had a guy sit my fence line last year in cedar thicket that he cleared. He could not see anywhere on his land, but he had it facing our plot. I got my tractor and pulled a HUGE cedar tree about 6 inches from his blind block our plot from view. He got the message and pulled his pop up. As for your situation.....he's legal and theres nothing you can do about it. I wouldn't till it up. Chances are you guys share they same deer anyways with or without the plot. Remember....you don't own the deer. Defend your land is much different than defending "your" deer. If that makes any sense....sorry your frustrated buddy. I would be too.
wv hunter
around these parts we cant hunt that close to another property might wanna check the hunting regs
Ethan Givan
That is very frustrating. This must be becoming more of a problem because I hear about more and more people having the same issue. If a state doesnt have any regs about how close someone can hunt to a property line, then they need to make some new regs to address that issue. If there are no regs, then not a whole lot you can do, unless you can catch them shooting deer on your side of the fence.
wtnhunt
some people can tick you off Yup, sure can. Got a little ticked this morning here myself, dealing with the same crap year after year with the same people gets old too.
layin on the smackdown
id be more ticked off at the fact that the guy is probably burning out a great bedding area rather than hunting the edge of your food plot. In retrospect, he can't or shouldn't be shooting onto your ground, so the chances are good that the deer will adjust to his idiot stand placement and avoid him entirely. its a good plan to hunt a bedding area during the rut, but it sounds like he pretty much just set up camp. Thats me being positive. give it some time and see how the deer react over a small period of time. dan
dbHunterNY
yea i agree it can be a problem. unless there's a law against it then you just have to keep an eye on things. we've got many that hunt property lines near my parent's farm. if you have enough land then you try create habitat that keep the deer moving onto your property but not hanging around the border. i will say that laws shouldn't be put in place that give you the right to tell your neighbor what to do on his/her property. for example, i hunt my property behind my house. i have a stand that's within range of the line, but there's cedars there on the line so thick i can't really see the other side from the stand. (additional clarification: I have no intentions of triming them on my side of the line, because i don't need to see the neighbors property.) the tree and where the deer go with the prevailing winds it's just the best spot. i only have 10 acres so to say i can't have a stand lets say within sight or even 40 yards of the property line would mean i pretty much can't hunt any of my land. not exactly fair. basically you can tell if a person is deliberately hunting the line with intentions to take game on your property from there's. it's wrong, but to an extent you can do things to prevent them from doing so. for example you can put something blocking their view to your property. unfortunately, people abusing the loop hole happens more often than it should. fly
Won't do much good now, but I'd be planting some pines 10 feet inside your line to one day create a wall. For now it would send a message.
Ultradog
Dunno your laws. In MN you can not hunt over bait or a "deer feeding area" If he was here you could put up a few 'deer feeding area' signs and throw out an apple or two once in a while and prevent him from hunting within 500 feet of that area. Even on his side. Depends on how large your land is and wether you could develop/hunt in another area but it would sure KyBosh his hunting there. Problem here with anti hunting types controlling boundry areas of adjoining owners by doing that. Dunno how the MN legislature will work that one out.
