Just wondering how everyone's rifle season went, we did great this year! We ended up getting 5 deer, 3 bucks and 2 does. We pretty well shut it down on Wednesday when the 5th deer was killed, still had 2 more doe tags but wanted to keep the herd as good as it is now for next year. Had plenty of venison. I didn't get one this year. Got blasting at a doe on Sunday but missed, oh well, it happens. Got to see 2 guys take their first deer this year, one was a 12 year old son of one of our members. That was just as good or better than killing one myself! Hope everyone had a great season.

  • 2 weeks later...

For 9 of us total in camp. We got 4 deer total. I got a doe fawn on the tuesday, and between myself and another hunter we got a doe on friday. Both in the first week. During the second week we took it easy only going out on a few evening hunts. On the last sat. of rifle seson, my Dad got a doe and a nice 9 point buck. His biggest buck he's has gotten in 40 plus years of deer hunting. It was great to be there and share the moment with him. His biggest before this was a 7 point in '77.

We got 16 at gun camp....I shot a small 6 pointer on a push but did not know I had hit it until we skinned it out....as for the Island and bow hunting I am still waiting for the big boy to come out.....I have had lots of little guys and does and fawns but I will wait for a big boy.

I must admit that I haven't been out this season near as much as other years. I've been out a couple times since the gun season closed (wasn't out with the gun) with my bow, but sign and deer have been somewhat scarce. Muzzleloading season opens tomorrow and I'm gon'na try and get out to a friend's camp on Wednesday and Thursday, but not too optomistic given the lack of sign I've been finding here.

One of my best friends got a 7-pointer on Thursday with his xbow and he called me to give him a hand dragging it out of the bush. He had a few pics on his trailcam of a larger buck that he's hoping to see before the season ends. We had some fresh venison heart that night. A lot of people don't fancy heart or liver, but I look forward to it once ot twice a year.

If we get a little snow on the ground this month, I'll be out checking to see where all the deer went in my area.
