Re: Big rub.....

Dont guess I have ever seen a rub on a tree quite that big Tom, but have some very large trees that look similar that have been gnawed on by beavers. Biggest rub I have seen around here was on a tree a little bigger around than a 2 liter coke bottle.

Saw an episode of RT once I think where a deer was rubbing a telephone pole.

Re: Big rub.....

OK while I was in Iowa this past November I came across these 2 rubs.

This one is big but........ 4514Cedar_Rub-med.jpg

it's nothing compared to this BIG Osage tree. Yea I know it's hard to believe it's a rub but I promise you it is. I was like shocked.gif when I saw it. Never did see the big guy that made it.

Do you guys notice how bucks prefer to rub on trees that have an odor to them...pine, cherry, kreosote utility pole..lol, cedar... I've noticed that quite a bit where I hunt.

Hmmmm, never really noticed that so much as they like to get there antlers into bark or trees that give a little. Usually soft barked trees it seems to me.

Rhino--that's truly amazing. shocked.gif

I saw 1 apple tree (actually, 3 big trunks that formed one big tree), that was that big, maybe a little bigger, that had a rub on it. When my buddy called me over to look at it, like a dumb a** I said "what did that? A bear?" He just looked at me with this pity look on his face. We don't have bear in this part of Ohio. That apple tree had a 2 foot diameter on it. shocked.gif

Most of 'em around here are on cedar trees.

Haven't really noticed that either. Probably the most common tree for a deer to rub down here is a Magnolia tree. 2nd to that would be a Cedar tree.
