Rhino
Re: Big rub..... [ QUOTE ] Rhino--that's truly amazing. I saw 1 apple tree (actually, 3 big trunks that formed one big tree), that was that big, maybe a little bigger, that had a rub on it. When my buddy called me over to look at it, like a dumb a** I said "what did that? A bear?" He just looked at me with this pity look on his face. We don't have bear in this part of Ohio. That apple tree had a 2 foot diameter on it. [/ QUOTE ] I know what you mean Chris. There I was standing next to it and found it hard to believe too. The buck that did it had ripped up other big trees right around there including the big Cedar in the 1st pic. Obviously the Osage tree was the biggest one hit. I sent the pic to my frind in Iowa and he sent me another one of him standing next to a tree almost as big that was really torn up. One of these days I've got to buy a scanner. Rhino
Re: Big rub..... [ QUOTE ] Wow, sure those are from deer Rhino? [/ QUOTE ] Yep I'm sure deer made both of those. The 2 trees were about 30 yards apart. There arent any bear and no cattle (not fenced in) on that property. I was bowhunting this same property within 25 yards of both of these trees in November 2002. The osage wasn't rubbed then but the big cedar was. I watched a 140 class 8 point come in and rub that same cedar tree. I passed him up because there was a wide booner in the area. I saw him later that but that same osage tree was between us and I never had a clear shot at him. He was a sight to see. His inside spread was about 25". I imagine a deer with a similar spread tore into that big osage tree.
wtnhunt
Re: Big rub..... Kind of funny, I opened up a pasture our cows have not been on and our bull has hit every cedar tree he has found. Dont know what the attraction to cedars is with deer and other animals.
AJ
Re: Big rub..... I saw this rub a few years ago. The Remington 700 leaning aginst the tree has a 28" barrel. Nope, its not a deer rub, it was done by an elk. This was in Colorado.
