Tony
i have been slow playing my area this whole year. i didnt want to shoot a doe early due to i wanted her to bring in one of the big bucks running the area. so with 3 days left before shotgun season i was on a quest to shoot a doe. this morning it happened but not like normal. a doe and 6 of her friends came along. i knew i was going to get a shot and at 25 yards i stopped her with a errrp. i squeezed the release and about half way to the doe the arrow got deflected some how. i hit her in the neck and the arrow passed right through. immediatly i saw blood flying and she only went 35 yards and fell over. she wasnt on her feet 10 seconds. guess the arechery Gods were with me today. this is my 20th bow season in a row that i have shot a deer. i was glad that such a crappy shot didnt wound her. heres some pics. dbHunterNY
yea i've pulled a fixed blade broadhead out of a bucks neck before while processing it. looks like you hit all the arteries in the neck though. heck of a blood trail. my brother had a deflection had to him. the arrow hit the inside of the bucks opposite rear leg and the artery there. it didn't go 40 yards. i sight my whole pin guard in my peep so i can see how high the arrow will be at each distance with the position of each pin, but even then sometimes you just hit stuff. doesn't take much. glad you had such good luck. congrats on the doe! backwoodsbowhunter
Crazy things happen while bow hunting!! me and my buddy were at a 3D shoot one time and we drew back and released the arrow at the same time. Now here's the weird part! Some how In mid-air the arrows slammed together and sent sparks flying but some how we both ended up hitting the target! Mystery Hunter
I also had a shot hit a limb this year and deflect. It was my best deer to date with a bow a 9 point. The shot from 26 yards hit a limb I did not see and the aroow hit him in the upper part of his hind quarter. It severed the Artey there and he did not go 25 yards and piled up. I did not see or here him go down and sweated for 45 minutes before getting down out of the stand and looking for blood. When I got to where I hit him there was blood everywhere like yours. I shined my flashlight out into the woods and there he layed white belly shining. What a relief it was and the celebration is still going on! LOL. I shot it on October 23,2011. Congrats on your doe!! It is sweet when things turn out this way and not so sweet when they dont. I will take a little luck or Blessing served up on my platter anyday!!
