Canadian_Goose
Looking at starting a food plot in the spring. Not sure if we have the budget to Lime the spot. Was wondering how important PH levels are and if there are any other considerations. Here is the seed I am looking to use in Manitoba. LETMGROW
The most important step you can take ( and it should be your first ) would be take soil samples and have them tested. Then you will know if you should or should not spend money on lime, how much you need, if any. The results will also tell you what blend of fertilizer and how much you should apply. Tell whoever is going to do the lab tests what you intend to plant. They should be able to recommend liming and fertilizer requirements. Generally these soil tests run less than $ 25. You can save hundreds in unneeded lime or fertilizer. Most of us take soil samples on a yearly basis and keep good records of PH levels. By reviewing these records we can adjust our lime and fertilizer applications. Several years I haven't applied any lime as my PH has stayed near neutral. Otherwise I could have spent money on lime I didn't need and would actually gone over the 7.0 target PH. Too much is as bad as not enough. Good Luck, Lynn
