bfletch7441
Incredible pictures. It's a rarity if a coyote gets by me without at least geting shot at. Ben
wtnhunt
Think that deer had been hit by a car, it was injured. Amazing to have gotten those trail cam pics. Those okie yotes sure look long legged and slim. It's a rarity if a coyote gets by me without at least geting shot at. Yep. Shot at 2 this year, one with the bow at 7 yards which I missed, and one with the ml'er that I killed. Saw another during the ml'er season same spot as the one I killed a few days later but it was moving too steady right at first light, did not get a chance to get on it. Adjam5
Incredible sequence of pics there Joe. Can't help but think of the famous quote by Fred Bear when I see that. " Death by fang and claw is a much more violent death than the one the hunters arrow bestows." How true huh? Those are some long legged yotes. They smelled that blood on his rump and that I believe, convinced them that they could take him. That is natural selection at work. Thanks for sharing that. William, I never thought of that...but we dont really know when this attack started..My thinking was yotes dont stand a chance on a buck like this if he is healthy, and no snow....but put him in 3 or 4 foot of snow and a yote will run them down until they jump off the trail and then they will ham string them just like a wolf.. cruel way to die
mikewink
Saw these pics on a local forum. Lots of dispute on the other site. Beautiful buck, but I find it hard to believe is wasn't injured or ill prior to the beginning of the attack. Those hooves on a healthy deer that big will devistate a yote..... Dawg
Yep, saw that on another forum I frequent. I lean more toward the buck being sick, like blue tongue. Just too weak to fight. Too bad the guy didn't find the antlers before the tree rats got to them. Edited December 7, 2011 by Dawg
brendonp
I wonder why he stopped in front of the camera, was something wrong with his vision and he needed the flash to see where the coyotes were. Only three groups know what happened and none of them can tell us: the deer, the coyotes and mother nature.
wtnhunt
Real odd that the deer hung around that camera so tight for so many pics. Too weak to move around much possibly or maybe felt safe there? William, I never thought of that...but we dont really know when this attack started..My thinking was yotes dont stand a chance on a buck like this if he is healthy, and no snow....but put him in 3 or 4 foot of snow and a yote will run them down until they jump off the trail and then they will ham string them just like a wolf.. cruel way to die Agreed, a single yote or even two on a healthy mature buck or doe for that matter would not stand a chance. Don't think that deer was healthy. Most healthy deer will run from two or three dogs or yotes. Got to wonder if that deer was possibly unable to run, maybe had some internal injuries or was sick and had a false sense of security with the camera flashing scaring away the yotes. I lean more toward the buck being sick, like blue tongue. Just too weak to fight. Too bad the guy didn't find the antlers before the tree rats got to them. Kinda thought that might be a possibility too. EHD and/or blue tongue in drought prone areas could make deer weak and less likely to fight off predators. No doubt Oklahoma had drought problems this summer. From all those pics, did not see any that really showed excessive bleeding or a reason for the deer to lay down and give up.
