backwoodsbowhunter
I'm thinking about switching to the G5 T3 expandable broad head. I'm using the **** razors fixed blades but they don't fly real well. What do you guys think about this broadhead?
redkneck
My buddy shoots them, they do a lot of damage, personally i dont like the clips but they all have hangups. I dont think you would be disappointed if you tried them.
Ohiobucks
I had similar results with the Heckraiser, they didn't pattern very well for me. I tried Rage for a season or 2, now I'm back to a fixed blade one piece head (G5 Montec). Hit 1 deer in the shoulder with an expandable head and you'll switch too...love the Montec. Ohiobucks
Yep, that was my last Rage deer. After sticking 1 in the shoulder blade and losing it, I'm off the Rage (or any mechanical head) bandwagon. That dog of a fawn I shot down at Michael's was basically point blank, and only got pass-thru after it took 3 or 4 steps.
need2hunt
My suggestion would be Spitfire or Spitfire Pro... or if you want a bigger hole Spitfire Maxx. It flies EXACTLY the same as my field points, never had a problem with penetration always had great blood trails. I didn't believe in expandables until I tried these... been using them for 5 seasons now.
dbHunterNY
can't use it here in NY because it's considered a "barbed" head. they seem to work for others i know that have tried them. that's all the info i can give.
jcot2773
Never tried them... something about the spider clip retention system doesn't sit well with me. However there are plenty of people that shoot them with no issues.
redkneck
I did jump on the rage bandwagon too a couple years ago. I lost one doe that was my fault, but got a great pass through on a one-sided 8pt and I think only one blade deployed, exit hole less than one inch slit, so I never shot them again, even though he only made it 40 yards. I killed 2 does opening weekend though this year with the NAP bloodrunner. Those things can't fail to expand by design. Not saying I'm hooked on them, but just another good choice. abrown
I use the Wasp BOSS SST, fixed blades, if something goes wrong it's my fault not the broadhead. I haven't had that problem yet. Leave bad blood trails, but I haven't really had to trail anything, just watch em fall, go over and get em. Shot several deer, and an elk with em. sskybnd
i used the schwaker this year, and was some what pleased with them, the buck i shot was at 30 yards and was a pass threw and it did what they say, it cut a big hole and he bleed out both sides, but i still keep a muzzy in the qiver for longer yards
backwoodsbowhunter
My biggest issue is I want something that flies well. Fixed blades are not working well with my bow. I have used rage in the past however I got sick of them popping open when they shouldn't an I did shoot 2 deer I never found which was probably my fault. mikebohio
this is probably not going to be a popular answer but i was not happy with the penetration with the rage. i did recover every deer i shot with the rage but i never get a pass through. shooting from elevated stands it takes awhile to get a blood trail. my son started bow hunting this year. we did not recover the first deer he shot with the rage. me and three of my buddies combed the area and found no blood. i didn't see the shot impact but did see the arrow sticking out of the deer as it ran off. poor penetration for sure. i know it could have hit the shoulder blade. anyway i was out of broad heads. went to pick up some more. after spending alot of time looking over the options i bought two packs of easton terminator 2 broad heads. six bucks a pack. used the first pack to practice with. they grouped just fine at 20 30 and 40. took them to the woods. the boy took a doe with one. pass through and plenty of blood trail. i took a doe with same results. i guess the moral of the story is any broad head will do as long as they group for you. at 6 bucks for three i found mine. Greenhead
Here is another not so popular answer. If your bow is not shooting fix blades accurately then it is not properly tuned. Going to mechnicals due to this reason is just covering for a bigger issue. Shooting an untuned bow and adding mech equals disaster due to even worse penetration. Food for thought. Ravin R10 man
Yes..great point Greenhead...I know the rage fly different for me than my fixed blades
abrown
That's a great point! I paper tuned both my bows. I have awesome accuracy and the pentration is not a problem! I have practiced and can group my broadheads up to 60 yrds. PRACTICED being the main word. Although the cow elk I shot last year was around 55 yrds, and I had a complete pass through! I would have never figured that on an elk! I buy rubber O-rings from Lowe's and it allows me align my blades with the fletchings.
