WVdeerhunter
Has any1 shot a 7mm-08? How is the kick? Im wanting to get my boy hes 10 a gun that he can shoot now that dont kick and will be ok for later. I reload so i think i can start out low so the kick wont be to bad and work it up as he gets older. I read you can get close to a 7mm mag. out of it so i know it will be a good caliber. Why im looking at this caliber is i will be getting me a 7mm mag barrel for my T/C and i will be able to use the same bullets when reloading. Thanks for any info
Ravin R10 man
Absolutly!!! Great calibur for a young shooter..started my daughter on that and she had no problems with it.not much difference than a .
Shaun_300
The 7mm-08 is a great gun for younger or smaller shooters. In between a .243 and .308 it's a very versatile cartridge. One of the guys in my group's young lad's shoots that caliber, as well as my aunt.
Adjam5
Good deer caliber and easy on the recoil. Great for youth. The .243 and the 7mm-08 were both created from the .308 cartridge. Matter of fact you could call the .243 a 6mm-08.
Strut10
Both my kids got .308's when they were 10 or 11 years old. Neither (boy & a girl) had any issues with the recoil. The 7-08 is a FINE deer caliber for young and old alike.

clrj3514
That's what my buddy shot when we were 10-12 with no problem. 7mm-08, 308, or 270 would probably be your best bet.
LETMGROW
I really like the 7-MM 08. I bought my wife a Remington 700 BDL Mountain rifle a few years back and haven't been sorry. It fits her well even with heavy clothing and an insulated vest. Something to think about is the 7-MM 08 is a short action round. This is a little more user friendly for a person with a smaller frame and shorter arms. There is no lack of firepower in this flat shooting cartridge. My wife downed a buck last year at 176 yards with one shot. Down and dead. Lynn
bowhunter97
Another gun you could get him is a 30-06 it can shoot almost any loads litterally from a rabbit load to an elk load i have one and the kick isnt bad. They also make manage recoil loads. Those are loads that have half the recoil as the original with the same knock down power. Great all around gun.
