philray
I have a question I need help with. About 4 months ago I moved 35 miles from where I work, so I bought a car that gets good gas mileage, has low miles, but it had a little bit of hail damage. My insurance company didn’t ask if it had any damage to the car and I didn’t think to inform them that it already had hail damage. Three months later we have a hail storm and my car gets a little more hail damage than it had, but nothing major. The insurance adjuster that was looking at my house, which also got some hail damage, noticed the car. I told him I was not going to make a claim on the car. Here is my question. If I were to get in the wreck, would my car insurance pay me what the car is worth or will they pay me what it is worth minus the hail damage? I just don’t know if I am wasting my money paying full coverage, or if I should just go with liability?
Texan_Til_I_Die
Can't help you on the hail question, but here's my rule of thumb on full coverage vs liability. If the vehicle's value is something that I can write a check for, then I go with liability. I've got two trucks, one a fairly new Chevy Duramax and the other a 89 Chevy 4x4 that's my ranch truck. The 89 is only worth about $3000 so all I carry on it is liability.
wtnhunt
Probably best in this situation to discuss it with your agent.
Jeramie
I betting it would have a lot to do with the company itself. Keep in mind that every company does things differently and all to benifit them..... I carry allstate, im guessing (just a guess) that they would pay me for the re-sale value of the car meaning the damage would detract. stevebeilgard
Probably best in this situation to discuss it with your agent. i agree. you bought that vehicle cheap because it had hail damage. that means some insurance company lost money on it. but, it's a sure bet that carfax and other reporting agencies know full well it was damaged. that said, you knew it had hail damage so if you were to indeed file a claim, it would be fradulent meaning you'd be guilty of insurance fraud. hey, you bought it cheap so just carry liability insurance.
