bfletch7441
My TV went out this morning. What would you folks suggest I get? We don't watch a lot of TV, so a 42" is about as big as I'll go. More interested in brands and types (LED, LCD, etc...) and no, I'm not going to buy a 3D TV. Thanks for the help! wtnhunt
We went with a philips 42" lcd a few years back from sams club. Been real happy with it. Pic quality on the screen on ours was better compared to toshiba, sony, jvc, and the others we looked at. At the time we got our the 120 hz sets were new, that is what ours is, sony's bravia set and the toshiba and jvc we considered were only 60 hz. I would buy another philips without any hesitation. Leo
Whatever TV you decide to get. Keep the receipt and packaging for the return duration the store allows (usually at least one month) after purchase! Even the "good" ones have a lemon or two in the mix. If you have a problem exchanging at the store is much easier to deal with than sending it in for service. Keep in mind a lot of the newer TVs take longer to power up than the old ones. So give it a chance to actually turn on before furiously pressing the power button trying to make it turn on. Stay away from the "i" models ie. 720i and 1080i. Go with 720p or 1080p. Without going into specifics a 720p is essentially twice as good as a 720i. If you are going to do any gaming on the set, get one with the highest refresh rate you can afford. ruttinbuc
I purchased a 46" Samsung 1080p 120hz LED last year from Best Buy a month after the Super Bowl. It was an "out of box" special. Someone bought it to watch the football game and then returned it right after. Not a thing wrong with it and it came with a NEW warranty. I got it for less than half of the original price. It has all the bells and most of the whistles. The only thing it didn't come with is the cardboard box. I could not be happier with the purchase. My daughter said The Cat in the Hat looked really good on it this morning. Ben I've got a Vizio too. It's the 1080p as well. Honestly, I didn't much care for the sound quality. So I bought a rca to 1/8" mini adapter and plugged some PC speakers into it. The Vizio has an option for turning off on board speakers and controlling auxiliary audio. The sound is freaking amazing with two PC speakers and a sub-woofer! A whole lot cheaper to go that route than buying a home entertainment sound system. Shaun_300
We're looking for a new TV tomorrow for our apartment while we're in the city Christmas shopping. There's a 32" LCD Dynex on sale at Future Shop for $217, more than likely going to get it. I know it's not the biggest brand name out there but I've had one in my bedroom (19" I think) for the past couple years and it's been great!
