texastrophies
We got the trailer loaded with everything but the kitchen sink and will be heading out early in the morning for Jacob's youth ML mule deer hunt in Arizona. The season actually opened on the 16th through the 31st, and in this case later in the season is better to try and hit the rut. A friend was out hunting it last weekend and said the rut hadn't started yet, hopefully it will get kicked in here soon. Will have a story and pics when we get back, just hope there will be a big rack to go with it.
m gardner
Don't worry the mulies are rutting. This next week usually is the peak of it. We saw a big 3 X 4 all rutted up wandering around the archery course at Usery Mountain this past weekend. Good luck and Merry Christmas. texastrophies
That sounds good. Made it to Benson, just outside of Tucson. About 950 miles. Woke up around 11 last night and realized I did have everything loaded, forgot the sleeping bags. That would have been bad. When we left this morning we made it about 1/2 mile when Jake remembered we didn't have pillows either. Since then it has been a good trip so far. m gardner
Luckily the snow probably didn't make it that far south yesterday. If you're in the desert you should be okay. It's a bit cooler so you should have good hunting. Good luck.

texastrophies
We're back, no blood. It was a tough hunt, the rut hadn't kicked in yet. Jake did get a shot at a real nice 3 pointer with brow tines that was in the 24 -26 inch range. The excuses for the miss include 148 yard shot into the sun, using a rigid bipod on unlevel ground, and maybe one of the biggest, after rethinking our procession of loading the muzzle loader, I know we did not run any patches through the barrel before we loaded it and imagine that didn't help. Bottom line we saw at least one deer each hunt, got a shot at a nice buck, put a stalk on another decent buck that didn't pan out, got an upclose look at an abandoned gold mine and spent about a week doing what we both love. That equals a successful hunt in my book. Will load a few pictures when I get them off the camera.
stevebeilgard
and, a week with your son doing what you love to do most. it doesn't get much better than that. so, i'd have to say you had a very successful hunt.
