Swamphunter
So I am starting to build a cabin with my son in the spring with the help of a buddy. This winter is prepping the road in and clearing the lot early in the spring. This is the style we've decided on, but this one as shown is 16x20. We have increased the size to 20x26. I like the finished stonework to keep critters out from underneath It has a nice interior loft on the one side We also like the corner fireplace idea set up like this... Im looking into doing a floor with salvage materials like this pallet floor or I have PLENTY of very large Ash trees and may have it made into plank flooring. Pallet Ash With new old style appearing nails, face nailed through the plank flooring We have come up with these three space saving ideas that we like however, I am going to make the table out of trees cut from the property also... Love these for under the loft And this for bedding Here is my current work prepping.. weather permitting until we have 3 feet of snow Doesn't look like much yet, but coming from what was completely wooded, to having a trail wide enough to navigate with my truck or ATV... I've got a lot done. This is my gravel road onto the property mainly for parking This is my trail in towards the cabin location, if you follow the red line. The line as drawn covers about 100-125 yards The ATV is sitting at the approximate 50-75 yards past the end of the red line in the previous picture, but this image is looking back at the ATV in the direction of the road. Im in a bit further down the trail This image is with me standing in the same spot as the previous picture, but looking further up the trail towards the eventual cabin location. The red arrow points to the cabin setting The cabin will eventually sit on the hill in the background in this pic Edited December 22, 2011 by Swamphunter typos

redkneck
Looks like it's going to be a fun project Ken. Good luck finding pallets with decent quality lumber in them anymore. Nice to find some good old lumber though for those projects. My parents old cabenets were build out of weathered pine that used to be the siding on and old shot gun shack of a house in Alabama. Some of them even had bird shot in them where someone had once shot it. They were beautiful, wish they hadn't ripped them out.

Swamphunter
Of course all the deadfalls and downed timber in that last pic will be cleaned up and used for firewood so its not so messy looking... that dead tree and logs in the foreground of the picture is already cleaned up.
