swohiodave
what calibers/loads do you guys use? I am thinking about giving it a try in the off season. I have seen 2 this year afte not seeing any over the last 3 years. Time to work on population control.
wtnhunt
Got a real problem with yotes here. I killed 2 during this deer season, missed one with the bow. Use whatever I have when deer hunting, but when I go out to call I take my .223, use 55 grain pointed soft point.
dbHunterNY
depends on if you're just taking them out or want the hide intact. i use a rifle chambered in .223 Rem. I shoot remanufactured and factory new ammo from Black Hills loaded with Hornady 60gr Vmax bullets. Every coyote shot has been pretty much dead on impact. similar trajectory, out to 300 yards or so, as your standard caliber deer ammo you probably hunt with. dbHunterNY
like john said any deer rifle will work too. you'll get more hide damage, but if you're just focused on population control then it doesn't matter. i should add that my gun is a varmint rifle. i can handle it relatively quick on sticks or a bipod, but it's still heavy and the scope only goes down the 6x. i carry a shotgun with me when i'm coyote hunting. it's setup for coyotes, but any setup used to hunt turkeys or using buckshot will work. it helps when they come in fast and close. keep something under the barrel too, so the whole gun isn't laying flat on the ground. you can scoop under the receiver and get it up quicker. Mystery Hunter
I have several guns I use. It just depends on what mood I am in! LOL I use a 5mm Remmington Mag, 12 Gauge Stoeger Pump with #5 Turkey load with a Jellyhead choke and a Marlin .243 Bolt action. I like to change up every once in awhile. I like to have the 5mm for shots out to about 200 yards and it is easy on the pelts. The .243 for shots out to 450-500 yards and the shotgun for a pack of them out to 75 yards. Where I live I have several different setups that will match up with what I am shooting. The shotgun is realy nice when you have more than one running in at once and your hunting by yourself. Ravin R10 man
use a .22 to a 270..depends on when I see them and what I got in my hands
killer711
22-250 puts them down fast.
layin on the smackdown
4 buck and 00 buck work great out of a 12 gauge out to 85-90 yds. Rolls em on the spot, with multiple shots if needed.
dbHunterNY
as i mentioned earlier i use a shotgun too... it's loaded up with 3-1/2" T-shot Hevi-shot Dead Coyote. As long as the Burris Speed Bead red dot is on them, they get hammered right up into a ball and drop like a stone. Can be expensive stuff though. abrown
I have a 222 Rem with handloaded 40 gr. Nosler Ballistic tips. I also have a 12 ga. with 3' #4 buck shot too. Alot of guys use a 22-250, 243 with the 52 gr. V-max, or you can go all out with a 223, or 243 ssmag. I generally don't shoot yotes with my deer rifle. I'm not going to risk a shot at a big buck for a dang yote. I have shot 3 with my bow though.
