Stinger-Hunter
I know everyone is going to say that it isn't the gun its the user.. but this ol' Remington 870 has been giving me problems for 2 years. I know, I missed him and its my fault, but 3 times!!!??? All within 25-30 yards. So I'm on the warpath for a different shotgun for hunting deer, rifled barrel and hopefully semi-auto. Semi-auto for practice reasons (easier on the shoulder). I'm a big guy, but 4 rifle slugs/sabots and I'm done. Any suggestions? I'm willing to spend about $600. I'd be glad to hear options. LETMGROW
When's the last time you took that 870 to the range and checked the zero. Something isn't right. I just reread your post. 4 shots? And you're all done? Sounds like a flinching problem to me. Get it on a good rest like a Lead Sled which you can shooot off all day. Have someone watch you. dbHunterNY
for a new and decent semi-auto shotgun you'll be hard pressed to find one for $600 and under. only one i can think of is a Stoeger M3500. maybe weatherby has one, but yea. even then i'm not sure if it can come with a rifled slug barrel. no idea how well you shoot or how much you flinch. regardless, i'd go back check scope and mounts as well as change your slugs. maybe the gun just doesn't like the ones your using. WHISKEYSWAMP
ever think about using a 20 gauge? I have a barrel for my Encore and have taken 5 shots at deer and 5 dead deer as a result. It is obviously a single shot but that is all it takes. I use 3" lightfield sabots with this gun and have no complaints. I've never had much luck with 12 gauges. dbHunterNY
another option for a semi-auto at that cost are Escort shotguns. can't give much feedback for those though.
