rossman
Re: Ny hunters on opening day It didn't rain at all where I was and it looks like it may hold till nighttime. The doppler shows rain in the western part of the state. Past up a small six and saw 6 doe. The six pointer seemed to be in the seek phase. He had his head down and was folowing trails and checking out near by does. Great opening morning. Gonna try tonight if the weather holds--Rossman

BuckNrut
Re: Ny hunters on opening day I have to confess that I messed up my own hunt before sunrise. I got lazy and put my heavy jacket on at the car, and never applied any scent eliminator. Before dawn a doe and her fawn cut across the same field I walked through to my stand and were headed my way. The doe winded at about 50 yards. I had another doe come to 12 yards, but no clear shot. I saw 4 more deer this evening about 200 yards away, and about an hour before sunset the seat on stand broke. Despite all these things I had a great time. I'm taking tomorrow "off" to repair the stand and maybe set it up on some new property I scouted last week. Sunday I'll be at my "honey hole" overlooking a scrape line.
NY911Bowhunter
Re: Ny hunters on opening day HardCore needs no seat!!!!! I was up early and in my stand at daybreak - sat until 0930 - saw nothing. Picked up my trail cam and it had 60 events logged - 60 cows!!! Rain started at 0810. Went back out at 345 - sat in a diiferent stand, the one I shot my 135 10 pointer out of - sat until dark - saw nothing - rain started 1 hour before dark - poured - got soaked. Had a great time! Guest DaHunter
Re: Ny hunters on opening day Well this morning started out just fine saw a doe go by with no shot oppertunity. Then my radio goes off at 8 and its my brother saying he shot one...so my hunt is over and i jump a few on the way out. Got over too him and we think he liver hit the deer, which he thought was a litte buck. We cleared out of the area and went back 3 hours later where we tracked the deer about 450 yards. I saw him laying down and my brother put the finishing touch on him, his first buck with a bow....9 pointer and about 140+ lbs.So he is really excited and i am really proud of him. Goodluck too everyone tomorrow.
