Tominator
Took my youngest boy out yesterday on a little bunny hunt. I've been wanting to go out since we got snow the other day, but my older boys would rather play XBox I guess. My youngest has been pestering me to take him to Dick's so he can blow his Christmas money on an airsoft gun. I think he's just a bit too young for that (he's 10) so I offered to take him out. I gave him our little single shot .410 and off we went. First brush pile we jumped one. As expected, he watched the bunny run away. lol. I asked why he didn't shoot, and he said "I was supposed to shoot? That was way too fast..." So we walked a little more, got to the end of a field line and I saw where my neighbor (recently retired) has been building a few brush piles. As I approached one, I saw a bunny bust out, jump a creek and run up the other side too far for a shot. Again, Matt just watched. Ten feet later as I'm on top of the pile Matt says "I see one!" Too close for a shot I positioned him where I thought it might run, but unfortunately, I saw it lope around and back in behind me. I repositioned Matt and tried to get it to go his way, but it disappeared. Matt was a little disappointed, so I suggested "maybe you should take a test shot to get used to shooting quicker..." He agreed, but, lol, he took 2 or 3 minutes to muster the courage to shoot at a drain tile about 50 yards away. He was worried, like most kids, about the report and recoil. I told him "you probably won't even feel or hear it..." He finally shot, and if that 4" tile was a rabbit, that would have been a dead rabbit. We headed for home as I was getting tired of incessant talking and questions, and the games were about to begin. We jumped one more, but he didn't see it. It was fun, he kept saying on the way back, "do you think we'll see anymore, because I really want to shoot a rabbit today..." I told him we have a whole 'nuther month to chase them. mainehunter895
Too cute. Its always fun to take the younger generations out. They are so unpredictable as to what they say. My daughters four and she got a pink daisy bb gun for christmas. Of course she only target practices with it under strict supervision she shot her first red solo cup the other day an just jumped right up and down with excitement. Im so glad shes showing intrest in hunting! We need to make sure hunting doesnt fade away!
Rhino
Cool Chris. Brought back some of the memories I had with my son when he was around that age. He'll be 25 nest month. Thanks.
