redkneck
I know, I know another new one, yippy, huh? I never jump on the bandwagon with the hundred or so new heads that come out, but this looks pretty interesting, looks like they fixed all the stuff I didn't like on the rage I shot a couple years ago. Edge - Broadhead - Trophy Taker Got a much better blade retention system, blades cut on the back side so they cut when they're pulled out by a running deer, blades lock together and pivot to roll around heavy bone, blades can be locked not to deploy for target practice. May have to give them a try when they come out.
Rhino
I'm not surprised to see someone come up with another fix or 2 addressing the weaknesses of an expandable. They've been doing that since they 1st came out with them. Good luck with this one if you choose to give it a go John. For me, I'll just stick with fixed blades. My attitude when it comes to the broadheads I use is...if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

redkneck
Definitely know what you mean, I still keep Muzzy in my quiver for the same reasons yall do, but have been shooting a new expandable every year or so last few years after many years being a fixed blade guy. I just like the flight of them at 40+ yards and the consistency, but all of them seem to have the same flaws. Just looked at this and seems to address some of that. I'll probably pick up a pack, been shooting 2-5 deer a year with the bow and hope to keep it up next year too. For what it's worth, out of the many I have killed, and the few that I have lost, I have never blamed the BH, for the ones I lost, I could always put a finger on the fault, be it me, or my failure to make sure my gear was in good order, including the rage doe I lost due to my rest getting bumped off. layin on the smackdown
Well Johnboy, if you get a pack and try em out, let us know how the work for ya...I'm always up for trying new things.
Rhino
Yep. I lost a doe with a Rage 2 blade due to penetration, switched to the G5 Montec and never looked back. Lost a couple of does too in the early days when they 1st came out with expandable blade broadheads. A buddy found 1 of my does several days later thanks to buzzards. Virtually no blood trail to track due to very poor penetration. Went back to fixed blades for good after that. I'd try a different fixed blade every year or so like you're talking about doing with expandables John. When G5 came out with the 1 piece Montecs I was extremmely impressed with their durability, penetration, and accuracy. It always bothered me when the blades on my replaceable blade fixed broadheads would break. Not a concern with Montecs. I love cut on contact for obvious reasons. Never have had an issue with Montecs not shooting like my field points either. The rest is history. With all that said I've been in and out of traditional archery hunting too. My trad broadheads are one piece 3 blade fixed too so I've had lots of practice sharpening those before I started shooting Montecs with compound bows. Sharpening and re-using my Montecs came natural. redkneck
I may give a Montec a try as well. I guess if you hunt long enough you'll lose a deer to any point, but as we all know it only takes getting burned once (or the perception you were burned) to swear one off. I'd say out of the ten or so deer I have lost over the years 90% were either due to a head-on shoulder bone hit with very shallow penetration, little blood loss, or a high lung pass through with high exit holes. Both scenarios are bad news, and any BH will have a time compensating for such a bad shot.
deer slayer
Those look pretty cool, I'd try em out when they come out.
RangerClay
Is it me or do they look like a copycat of those Swacker broadheads
redkneck
Looks similar, but function differently i think I just was reading something on these on another forum, thought they looked pretty innovative, thought I'd pass it along. I may pick up some, may not, I like shooting mechanicals, but have just had hang-ups on the two that I've shot so far.
Ravin R10 man
good luck..I'll stick with my Wasp & Muzzy chisel points
Straight Shooter
I tried the Rages out a couple of season ago but just wasn't pleased with penetration and drawing 67# at 287 fps. Granted I didn't lose a deer but just love my Muzzy's to much to go away from them. A hunting buddy of mine tried the G3's out this past season and WOW!! what a broadhead. Think I'd use them if a shot mechanicals. Until then, its Muzzy all the way.......I do have some Montec 100's but do not use them.
RangerClay
Looks similar, but function differently i think In the first minute I had a good chuckle. When I hear the Ulmers were the designers and it cannot open in flight. Randy Ulmer had a Rage open in flight when he was shooting one. That explained a lot of its design. Good luck with it. I'm sticking with my Slick Tricks for deer.
hungry hunter
Let us know John, in the mean time it's just me and my Muzzy's.
aujack
For those of you that like fixed blade heads you should check out Ramcat broadheads. I have tried several over the years including Montecs, HellRazors and Slick Tricks but the Ramcats impressed me the most. I got a pass through with them last year on a doe that I shot at 48 yards with my 50lb Hoyt and she ran 30 yards and ate dirt. Also, if you don't get a pass through they will cut their way back out of the animal creating more damage. Not saying what you use currently is bad, just thought I'd tell you about it incase you want to check them out. I just like trying new heads every year. This year I am getting a new bow and might try some NAP Spitfires. I've never shot mechanical heads before so I kind of want to try them out. dbHunterNY
NAP has a new one out too that's similar to the Rage concept.
