Shaun_300
Man oh man this is getting ridiculous! When we first moved into our 2 bedroom apartment in September the landlord said the hydro bill wouldn't be any more than $120/month. Figured that was still pretty high for a 2 bedroom apartment. First one was $80 and they just kept going up. Just got our last one and it was $195! This is unreal. Yes we have baseboard electric for heat but we try not to keep it above 72 degrees or so. Even the delivery charge went up, almost $70 to just get the power here without even using any! Freakin Hydro-One, what a bunch of ripoff artists!!!!!!
redkneck
I'd say mine runs anywhere from 160 or so in the winter to over 300 in hot summer months. I do have an old 10 SEER heat pump that really needs replacing though.
layin on the smackdown
Our biggest electric bill is always the one that comes in January....The Griswald family style yard and house decorations that run 24/7 for the two weeks leading into Christmas really hit the checkbook hard. I think that one was like $260. Most of the time i'd say we average right around $150, give or take.
Rhino
Like John said...winter electric bills are pretty cheap here compared to summer. Now my natural gas bill is another thing since I have gas heat & a gas hot water heater. To answer your question...I'm signed up for a level billing plan with the power company so my bill is averaged over 12 months and adjusted every month. My electricity bill runs about $110/month for my ~2,000 sq foot house. My gas bills runs from $16 in the summer up to $175 in the winter, depending on how cold it gets. The warmer the better in the winter.
wtnhunt
I would be happy with your electric bill Shaun, given how cold it gets up there. We have had bills over $300 in the past, but I am not sure yet on this new house as far as averages since I have still been using the compressors and saws with working on the house. So far I think our highest bill in this house was back over the summer around July to August and that bill was just shy of $300. Our December to January bill was a bit lower than I expected, but it has not been near as cold as we typically are this time of the year. I still have to caulk between all our logs, which should help us out quite a bit.
mike
our gas and electric are together, and we are on what they call budget billing. They charge the same amount every month you just pay an average. runs around 300 a month. thats a big older home with a hot tub that the heater runs year round, and a pool that the pumps runs 6 or 7 months a year. 92xj
Who is 'we', Shaun? My bills are----- 45 bucks for electric during the winter 80 during the summer. Gas 60-80 for the winter and 3-7 during the summer. 3 bed 2 bath 1450 sq ft. During the winter my heat is set to 62-64 degrees. Summer, the AC is set 68-72. The_Kat
our january bill was $110 which is about average. We are heated by propane, and the summer bills are never more than $200 with the air conditioner.
dbHunterNY
my electric bill is usually around $60-70 US this time of year. for hot water and heat (hot water baseboard) i burn oil. This winter I've been using an Eden Pure heater for heating most of the house. So the boiler only really kicks on to heat hot water. My electric bill this past month was $142 US I think. I've got compact fluorescent bulbs instead of incandescents, except for exterior lighting. This last bill works out to be 13.3 cents per kWh. NS whitetail
before I had a woodstove, my winter electric bill would be in the $600 range ( billed every two months here ), now it is in the $300 range for two months. In the summer months .... $ 200 or so for two months.
Dawg
140 +/- in the winter, 200 +/- in the summer......all electric.

swohiodave
my house runs around 125 - 150 a month except when its real cold, turn the heat down! we keeps ours at 70 during the hours we are home, 68 during the day when no one is home, and 69 at night. It all adds up. When the temps really drop we get up near 250 - 300. Your appt bill should drop if you turn it down 2-3 degrees.
OJR
We pay $93.00 per month for both electricity and gas. We are on a plan that stays the same every month. Our house is 1400 sq. ft, 3 bedroom & 2 baths. I'll take it!
Tominator
Depends on the weather. Electric heat pump for the most part, the propane furnace kicks on when the temp drops to 20 or so. This winter the heat pump runs almost exclusively so our last electric bill was $260. Normally it's around $180. 3Ksq.ft. home with 3 teenagers and a 4th grader. My job when I get home is to follow my kids around and turn off the lights behind them. Drives me nuts! I set the thermostat to 66 for the weekdays and nights, 69 when I get home and 69 or 70 on the weekends depending on how many times my wife says "I'm cold." When she gets to 500 complaints, I turn the heat up a degree.

Adjam5
I wish I had all of your G&E bills. I live in a 1400sqft 3 bedroom ranch. Natural gas heat by forced hot air. December bill was 129.84 for Elect and 168.68 for gas=298.52 January bill was 125.21 for Elect and 230.44 for gas =355.65 Basically we are paying 44.065 cents ea ccf of gas and 5.61cents each KWH for electric. I have installed compact flourecents wherever I can to save electric. We have new windows. But that DANG X box...that machine is a consumption monster! My two younger sons are on it quite often. One is principals list the other is honor roll. I don't complain about it...but my issue is with that is. Their room gets so hot from the game console that they open the window in their room. That I complain about. Hey I cannot expect anything to be cheap living 40 miles north of NYC.
Ozarkgal
Mine runs 300 in winter and 150 in summer, but my sister's runs 700 in winter and 400 in summer, too may kids...lol
wtnhunt
I've got compact fluorescent bulbs instead of incandescents, except for exterior lighting. This last bill works out to be 13.3 cents per kWh. Rate here has changed some, has been up and back down, but this last bill our rate was 0.0935 per kwh. That bill was $222. Got fluorescent lights or compact fluorescent bulbs most everywhere I can here including outside.
stevebeilgard
my house is 3000 sq. ft, all electric. 9'sidewalls with high ceilings, and a indoor hot tub. i've never seen a $100. month in 9 years. actually, it's rented out so i can't speak for the last 18 months. BUT, i used structureally insulated panels (sip's). that means 5 1/2" of styrofoam insulation on my sidewalls and r-60 on the ceiling, with little to no air infiltration. it's also very quiet. it's pretty expensive up front but pays itself out in 8 years overall, plus added resale value. another thing i should mention is that gillette is coal country. our 4 coal generated powerplants pay $3.00 a ton for coal. not a bad deal overall. i used sips up in alaska, too. they're just too good overall to not use. TBow
I live in a small municipality so we also have water billing on our monthly utilities bill. I would estimate my average monthly bill is about $225/mo. I have natural gas heat and hot water, but have electric central AC. TBow
