stevebeilgard
first off, i'm not a bear hunter. nor do i want to learn. but, i do see black bears about daily in alaska. so, for those interested in hunting, the very first thing i want you to check out are the laws. i have no idea what they are. but, i do believe the bear season closes june 15 and reopens august 15, so there's a start. i'm in southeast alaska, on prince of wales island. you'd fly or drive to ketchikan, then fly or ferry to prince of wales island where i could pick you up. i'll have my truck to use, or you can rent a suburban or truck for $125. a day. my house has 2 extra bedrooms, each with 2 single beds. i have a 18' smokercraft with a 25hp kicker, and a 22' cabin cruiser with a 4cyl. i/o. use them and replace the gas used. bring or buy your own food. i'd suggest a 7-10 day trip. you can pull crab pots and fish for your food. you hunt, and i can have dinner when you come back. i won't be going hunting. i'll also suggest a couple guys troll for salmon in the skiff, and go hunting when you spot a bear. i have all the fishing gear you'll need, and excellent rain gear. all can be used free, but you break/lose it, you buy it. anyone interested can just call or write me. if you bring the wives, whales are available daily, eagles, minks, deer, and more. they will have a good time. i'm in a town of 175-300 friendly folks with a gas station, bar, and small store. a good vacation whether you get a bear or not. besides, this is as cheap a bear hunt as you'll ever go on. fly
This is awesome! Steve, I'm not the kind of guy to commit and then bail out so I have a few things to check on before saying I'm in. However, I'm 100% certain I want to go and will take the steps necessary to take you up on this gracious offer. In addition... from reading your posts over the years it would be great meeting you. Let's give it some time and see who else might be interested. If no one I'd like to check and see if I could get one other person to go along. My dad might really enjoy a trip like this. stevebeilgard
driving is a good option, ben. you'll spend $50 bucks per gun to cross the border. check the rules. another thing about canada. if you EVER had a dui, you may not enter canada. very tough dui laws up there. and, that's a good thing. colorado bob
Can we pin this thread either in the lounge or big game section so it doesn't get stale? This is one of those hunts that is on my bucket list.
