Strut10
Got my CVA repaired and back home last week. The guy did a GREAT job on the toe of the stock.buttplate. VERY happy with the repair. Picked up the essentials to make it go boom on a trip to Grice's with Snapper a couple Saturdays back. So all I need is some time and some fit weather to get it out & making smoke. Was gonna happen last Saturday and it ended up snowing. So here's #1..........the CVA Mountain Rifle. And..............I ended up bringing home the gun built by an old buddy of mine who passed in 1997. It ends up that this was a rifle he built for his own personal use to compete in a county blackpowder shoot in a neighboring county. It's a 50 cal. "mule-ear" or "side-slapper" percussion gun reminiscent of the 1850's. It is completely hand made by my buddy except for the barrel. He even made the triggers. He built it because the side-slapper is a much faster lock time and the county shoot is all offhand. Story goes that this rifle upset a LOT of people because it won EVERYTHING anywhere he showed up with it. To boot....the guy that I bought it from got it directly from my late buddy.......and NEVER fired it. Last person to fire this gun was my late buddy !!!! I'm actually getting a letter of provenance from the man I bought the gun from. Very happy acquisition for me. Here she is:

dbHunterNY
both look like really nice rifles. you can't buy the history of the second one either. i have an old muzzleloader sitting at my dad's house. don't think it's really in working condition. more of a family heirloom. i say i have it, because i'm next in line to get it. i've wanted my grandmother and those who know the history of it to write it down so it can stay with the rifle. the rifle is several generations old.
