92xj
So, for the past 7 months, at least once a day I look up scopes and read reviews and articles comparing. Strut10
I'd look seriously into one of these: Weaver 4-20X50 Super Slam Euro Style Riflescope SF Dual-X Reticle Matte - Natchez Shooters Supplies
92xj
Ones I have been looking at....I like the price of the vortex and I have had dang good dealings with their customer service...but I dont know....I hate buying things for myself. It's hard. Weaver 4-20x50 Tactical 30mm Rifle Scope Vortex 4-16x50 Viper PST 30mm Rifle Scope Sightron 6-24x50 SIII 30mm Riflescope Bushnell 4.5-30x50 Elite Tactical 30mm Rifle Scope
dbHunterNY
save up $150 more there's the Huskemaw blue diamond 3-12x42 LR. Huskemaw's are nice scopes, if i was building a long range rifle i'd have one on it. Trijicon 5-20x50 AccuPoint Refilescope Mil-Dot Crosshair w/Green Dot Reticle Matte... but that's $200 more. ...so options under your cost parameters are... Sightron 6-24x50 SIII Series Side Focus Tactical Riflescope Mil-Dot Reticle Matte Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30 x 50 Tactical Mil Dot reticle Nikon has a scopes with side-focus dialing turrets and mil dots but you'll have to step down into 40's for glass. I'd recommend something with hash marks to hold for windage, side-focus, and turnable target turrets (also need a 20 MOA rail base for added elevation). wtnhunt
Dunno Ben, never had quite that much allowance for glass on any rifles, YET. If it were me though I would rule out the bushnell, not a fan of their fine csr's and how they ditched customers of companies they acquired who had lifetime warranties that became worthless. Have heard/read real good reviews on the vortex optics. Been a nikon fan here for a while(I could buy a couple scopes on that budget), I put a nikon monarch 2.5-10x42 on my LR308 and been real happy with it so far, been happy with all the nikon scopes we have for that matter. That said, I would look at leupolds or maybe consider saving up a little more and maybe check on the swarovski z3. Those huskemaw scopes on those customs they use on "the best of the west" look to be some real nice scopes, but other than the tv show I have never heard anything more about them. LETMGROW
Don't want to make Wtnhunt mad, but my favorite scope of all that I have ( and I have a lot of them ) is my Bushnell 6500 Elite 2.5-16x42, retail around $ 739.95. I like the 42 mm obj. as it allows me to mount the scope a little lower to the barrel to lessen the angle between the scopes line of sight in relation to the barrel. I however don't anticipate shooting anywhere near 300 yards. I have it mounted on my TC Icon .308. Great combination. My wife gave me this gun for Christmas of 2010 with my son helping her to pick it out. I didn't feel justified putting a cheap scope on it. Looking back, I am very pleased with my choice. Nope, not gonna make me mad at all Lynn. Just saying, if a company will not honor a warranty, even if that warranty is on a company/brand they bought out what good are they? I like my bushnell rangefinder and I had a bushnell scope on my ml'er for years that worked fine, but due to the dealings I had with bushnell customer service people I personally cannot recommend their products. Further, a rep from bushnell flat out lied to me about optics under the cabelas brand. Another in that price range I would look at is Zeiss. dbHunterNY
......huskemaw scopes on those customs they use on "the best of the west" look to be some real nice scopes, but other than the tv show I have never heard anything more about them. i like the idea of how things are set up with the turrets and hash marks for holding windage. seems like there's never a constant breeze here in the northeast. winds are always gusty. any scope that accurately dials elevation and windage (shoot a bullseye, 2 MOA up , shoot, 2 MOA left, shoot, 2 MOA down, shoot, 2 MOA right, shoot a bullseye) can be dialed easily enough for elevation. it's the dynamic wind that's a killer. unless i was a bench shooter, my long range setup would not be without hash marks or mil-dots. LETMGROW
The reason I didn't go with mil-dot ( and it is a choice ) is none of my other scopes has them. I'm a creature of habit I guess. I enjoy switching guns up throughout the season and don't want to become unfamiliure with any of the sight pictures. Like I said I didn't plan on any really long range shot opportunities with this setup. I also have a 7mmWSM Browning with a Burris Eliminator range finding scope. That would be my long range set up, although I will probably never use it for that. It was one of those " Had to have " things in a weak moment. Seems as though I have a lot of those moments when looking at guns and other toys. Shaun_300
I think if I had some cash to spend on a scope it'd be the Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x50 to put on my Ruger M77 Mark II .25-06. I'd love to start some serious reloading and work done to that gun for some long range shooting. Love the gun, trigger is nice from the factory and it's deadly accurate, I can drive tacks with it. Have 2 Bushnell Elite 3200 scopes already. a 3-10x40 on my Browning BLR .300 WSM and a 5-15x50 on my Browning FN .220 Swift. Both are awesome. Especially love the one on the Swift with the 50mm bell on it. Turns darkness into daylight in low light conditions!
