What Do You Do To Stay In Shape?

Just curious about what y'all do to stay in shape for hunting. Also, how has it helped you become a better hunter?

I have been working out my whole life, and I have found that regular training me develop the discipline, determination, and strength to tip the odds in my favor. I use a 4x a week program currently, which is designed mostly for strength. Shooting for a 600 pound deadlift this year!

I havent really tried to stay in shape for hunting reasons or any other reasons in last few years but I tell you walking these mountins around here will whip you into walking/hunting shape fairly quickly... I always take a lot of water turkey and deer hunting and it doesnt tke long into the season to get used to the walking up and down hill...

Fried bacon egg and cheese sandwiches in the morning, some sort of steak for lunch and dinner is whatever I throw together at the house. Lots of beer. It gets cold up here and the boat doesnt have a heater for the blind yet. Cant kill ducks if you leave early because youre cold. Gotta keep the body prepared for the cold, wind and snow.

i've got a treadmill, free weights, heavy bag, and universal gym down stairs. i try to maintain better portions with what i eat. i'm getting into P90X. basically it helps me shoot a bow better. other hunting i'm less winded when still hunting for putting on drives or climbing hills. in the summer i help my dad farm a little still. also i do work outside the house during the summer. mountain bike and other outdoor activities duing the summer too.

I lift every other day, and occasionally hit the heavy bag. I get shin splints pretty bad, so I don't jog anymore. I start with heavy compound excersises, then finish with supersets or tabata intervals to get the heart rate up. I've only been doing it since I turned 30, so it's been about 5 years. I never touched a weight in my life until then. I'm in better shape now than when I was 25.

I usually cut back during hunting season. 8 beers a night instead of 10, olive oil to fry my fatty burgers in instead of bacon grease. I ride my ATV everywhere I go so I don't have a heart attack walking. I always take some Snicker's bars along to keep my energy level and sugar up. It takes a lot of energy to climb on and off that ATV. If I shoot a deer I tie a rope to the ATV and drag it home where I use the winch to hoist it up with. Then I go into the house and have enough beers to celebrate as I missed by cutting back in the first place.

LOL

That's great to hear mud! Although you got me by about 10 years(26), I am in better shape now than I was in high school, using a variation of your protocol. It really helps when getting in and out of my stands, especially the area I hunt(hills, hills, and more hills). It REALLY helps during turkey season when you gotta chase gobblers that can sometimes be a 1/2 mile away. I'va also noticed that since being more disciplined with my nutrition, it has helped me maintain my discipline in the stand, no naps, all day sits, focused!

And stinger, I do some boxing on my conditioning days and it is a total #$% kicker! It even helps with my bench presses having faster hands.

Regular Gym- Upper body work out 2 days per week with 20 minutes on the treadmil (about 2 miles)

Regular Gym- Lower body work out 2 days per week wit h20 minutes on the crosstrainer (about 1.4 miles)

Rock Wall Gym- Climb once per week (about 90 minutes on the wall)

Then 1 day per week I ride my bike for an hour or so or play Basketball- Pick up games at the church.

Started this January 2nd to lower my blood pressure. It has worked well so far.
