LETMGROW
I'm not certain what you mean by cycling. Do you mean the pump action won't release after you fire it? Can you work the action if you push the release button? Lynn

LETMGROW
Chances are it needs more than a little oil sprayed into it. If it has set as long as you say you would be smart to take it to a gunsmith and have it taken apart and checked over. Frankly I wouldn't shoot it again until you do this. Why damage anything if you don't need to? This gun is valuable, I know you are anxious to shoot it, but it obviously has some sentimental value. Take care of it. I sure hope you at least gave the barrel a good cleaning before you shot it. Lynn

You might want to be sure it can handle a 3" shell. I have one about the same year and it's a 2 3/4" only. Mine doesn't like to eject todays really light loads like a 7 1/2 or 8 shot, but works fine with a #6 or heavier.

If you're not sure it is 2 3/4 or 3" all the more reason to visit a gunsmith. Lynn
terry264
killer, read where the a-5's operated with friction rings which could be adjusted for the power of the shell being used. Yours may be set for heavy loads. The link I will try to attach may be useful and has a link on it for the dismantling/cleaning etc. Also there is text about the s/n's and how to i.d. if it is a "magnum" model or not, although it should say on it somewhere, I would think. Was the action designed for 3"? A trip to the gunsmith is definitely in order. Tell them the barrel has been changed. Lynn
