Need ideas on a new shotgun

Looking to get a new gun for small game/upland game....Preferably a 20 ga shotgun. Needs an ambidextrous trigger or be left handed since I shoot left handed.

Looking for recommendations on brands, etc... I'd like to stay under $1000. Not sure if I want to go semi-auto, pump, or even maybe a double barrel/over under.

So any recommendations, post em up! Thanks!

I'd go with a Benneli.. Ruth I'd suggest camo leather!!...LOL

i didn't get this at first, but then i remembered the commerical. nice martin! lol

....anyway i really like my Benelli Supernova with the comfortech stock kicks less than many semiautos i've shot and is still light. Browning BPS due to it's ejection port being underneath would be a good choice too. a Benelli Montefeltro 20ga discounted out would bring you down under $1k, but otherwise Benelli semiautos aren't that cheap. Steoger and Escort are your cheaper semiautos. Steoger's use the interia driven Benelli system so they're pretty reliable.

False.

They use interia but its not like the SBEII or Vinci or the other Benelli systems. They have arms on the bolt that travel forward to the side of the magazine tube where there is a spring. So the inertia system on them is a pull instead of a push like the Benelli. I have a buddy that has one and I have dont everything I can do to that gun to get it to eat all types of shells and it won't. I would never purchase one.

I use my SEBII for all my bird hunting. It has zero kick with 2.75s. 3.5s #2s have a punch but I can shoot box after box and not be sore the next day. You seem to be worried about recoil and with that said. An autoloader should be your only choice. O/U or SxS will kick you. No recoild suppression, A pump will be a little bit less and then any autoloader will be the least. Save up an extra couple of months and take your budget to 1500, get a benelli and never have to buy a shotgun again the rest of your life.

i know of a couple that have them... they don't seem to have problems that i know of. i didn't know it wasn't the same system though. it's marketed like it is and i always thought it was.

Thats what I thought as well until I took my friends apart. Its way different on the inside. I think my description above is the best I can come up with. I have no other dealings with them other than that one gun, so others might work flawlessly. One of the biggest problems he is having is the ejector hook thing doesnt grab the first shell after its shot and turns it into a single shot and then a flat head or strong finger nail is needed to pull the spent shell out. It's weird. Anyhow, thats just my experience with one gun, so it's not saying much at all. Just throwing out personal experience. Hopefully that first post didnt come out as negative towards you, not my intentions at all.

I have shot a Benelli slug gun and thought it was the Cadillac of shotguns. Then I shot a Remington 1187. I have to say after shooting both I can't decide which one I like better. Other than price I can't see a lot of difference in the two.

I would make space in my gun cabinet for either.

I have 3 1100's and have to say the next will be the Benelli or 1187.

Looking at them from the outside they're the same. The differences are inside and behind the bolt body like you said. Benelli looks to have some more parts to put the spring into the butt stock (higher cost) to make it cycle smoother from what i can see. Your buddy should have that gun looked at though, that's weird. The actions use the same idea but are definitely different. No worries though Benny! That's why more people should be a apart of these forums. Members aren't afraid to correct each other and nobody gets bent out of shape. Then people learn something new.

I have a Winchester SX3 in a 12 gauge and love it. It will handle any type of load with no problems. Very little recoil with 2 3/4 loads and not bad with 3 1/2. This gun is also made as a 20 gauge. Think I paid around 1300 for mine. Well worth a little extra money for a good semi auto.

So there are some 12 ga. out there that don't kick like a horse?

yes semi-autos. especially a Benelli with a comfortech stock. or my Benelli Supernova pump with comfortech stock. I shot my supernova alongside a Remington 1100 semiauto once and thought mine kicked a little less. I don't know why you can't get a benelli supernova in 20ga.

Honestly a 12ga is a bit more to carry around though. for upland and small game go with a 20ga. unless you're going get a 12ga just to have it and then use a 20 ga you've already got for small game and upland birds.

Since you already have a 20ga Ruth I'd go with a semi auto 12ga like the 1187 or Benelli. The Benelli is a bit more pricey but have heard nothing but good things about them. Haven't heard a bad thing about an 1187 either though. I personally like the look of the Remington guns over the Benelli guns.

My son Marc has an 1187 12 Ga. slug gun. It has only been shot a couple times. RH model but you would be welcome to shoot it anytime if you were going to be in our area. We have a range set up right back of my house with a bench and everything you would ever need. We shoot right out of my big storage barn so weather is no object. I'm just outside Watertown.
