ruttinbuc
Deer season is finally over here. It has been a free for all the last month and a half with the use of any weapon if you had a permit. I opted to put as little pressure on the herd as possible. I long for a more sensible management plan geared towards the deer and not to the general fund through the cost of permits..
layin on the smackdown
Man Mike, i don't know if i agree with that plan - sounds like an accident waiting to happen. I mean im all for getting people out there, but everyone with any weapon all at the same time seems more like a war on deer than a hunting season. i don't blame you one bit for giving the deer some recovery time - good choice. dan
dbHunterNY
that's a bit odd. never heard of that before. respectful choice mike.
wtnhunt
Our season has been over almost 2 months now. Sounds like our rifle season here Mike, "free for all" is appropriate since it is legal to hunt with any weapon and also legal to kill an insane number of "antlerless" deer. I don't like the changes they made for last year putting us with a gun season that ran from November all the way to the season close, got to get my input out to the wildlife folks here real soon before they start planning out this season. ruttinbuc
I wish we could go back to just winter bow, William. I hunted some with the bow and the ML. The warm weather and the constant pressure from the baiters and the drivers have put the sightings down to zero. I put my camera back out only to have some dirtball steal it...I hope i never catch the guy.I might not have to worry about getting a job..:bang: Go figure I go shed hunting today after taking a stand down and I come across a fresh scrape stinkin' to high heaven. About 20 yards down the trail is a fresh rub about three foot up. Oh well, he'll be a good one next year if he doesn't play in traffic.. As for seeing change here they are going to a call in check system... All I see are ghost deer and pretty much more of the same BS :surrender: Just like everything else. It's a slalom turned into a downhill...
anewsfari
A tag in this part of NC entitles you to six deer, all of which can be does. But those can only be taken on "doe days". Good days to paint the kitchen.

Good days to paint the kitchen. Our doe days thanks to insurance companies and the folks who set our seasons last the entire season and can take up to 3 a day. Technically here you could legally kill over 300 deer in a season. I wish we could go back to just winter bow, William. I hunted some with the bow and the ML. We have had internet checking for a couple years now, while it is a convenience for us to not have to ever leave our property when we kill a deer, it does also make it a lot easier for people to engage in unethical practices and get away with poaching. Hearing more and more stories. I saw some fresh rubs and a few fresh scrapes here last weekend, pulled our cams and had a few pics of young bucks still with antlers. I went for another walk today and came across a bunch of scrapes that were more tore up than at the peak of the rut....

Stinger-Hunter
Amazing that some folks have been hunting through Feb. I'd be Totally burned out. I'm thankful that the season only lasts until about the end of Dec. It takes the pressure off of ME to want to be out in the woods constantly.
