Hoosierbuck
The best protein, of course...is venison! I have been working out a ton lately, and making a concerted effort to eat more protein by means of tuna, eggs, chicken, peanut butter, etc. Haven't gone the supplement route at all, so I'll watch this with interest. JKAPP01
what are you supposed to do without protein supplements to build muscle? I think a little supplementation might not be a bad idea. I am thinking whey or soy, maybe rice protein?
The_Kat
I don't use protein supps at all and I've gained plenty of muscle. That being said protein definitely won't hurt you and is beneficial to muscle growth. I just can't stand the taste of protein shakes so I eat most of my protein in the foods I consume. But in college I did use this stuff called Tru-Mass by BSN. It it good stuff. However protein is protein, the stuff they sell at Wal-Mart works just fine. Keep in mind that your diet is the golden key to your success. That and staying true to your workout routine and not going for 2-3 weeks and quitting like 90% of people do. If you wanna see results stick it out. I've cut 20 solid pounds and gained considerable amounts of muscle in 7 months at the gym. I get asked daily what roids I'm on. You should check out Mark Brown on these forums/facebook and see the incredible transformation he's done in 10 short months. It's amazing what you can do with your body with discipline and dedication! Good luck!
MUDRUNNER
Like mentioned above, most of your protein needs to come from food. A protein supplement is great for taking directly after a workout though. I mix my vanilla or strawberry flavor with oats and milk. Chocolate whey gets a scoop of peanut butter in milk. I also drink one if I miss a meal for some reason, or am a little short on calories for the day. Those are generally the three flavors I stick with since I know what to expect with them flavors. I've tried Optimum Nutrition and Muscle Milk from Bodybuilding.com, EAS from Target, and Body Fortress from Wal Mart. All of them are decent, and taste fairly good. Been using the Body Fortress mostly the last few months, mostly just because Wal Mart is the only place in town to get whey and that's what they carry. dbHunterNY
Even the best tasting stuff isn't that great. I eat foods high in protein here. If you workout in the AM have some eggs after. I drink milk so i'll have a glass of milk after i work out. For lunch substitute lettuce for spinach leaves. Lots of stuff you can do, but you've got to get more of it after works when you're recovering.
bowhunter97
I'm in the weight lifting class at school and i bring protein whenever i know we will be doing a hard work out. I get mine from Sams Club its called AMP 100% Whey Protein its about 17 or 18 bucks for a big container last time i saw it. I take it after the workout but make sure its a good hard workout for atleast 45 mins because otherwise it will just turn into fat if its not that hard or a workout. I will really only work if it is a hard workout lol i cant stress that enough because there is no point in working out if ur just gaining back the weight back or adding weight. I am going to take y'all up on that advice WOO! Maybe I will look for something that tastes a little better since that is a concern, I'll go try some samples and let y'all know what I find out. pinkcamogirl13
I agree that diet and working out are number one!! Use a 100% Whey Protein and vitamins. My husband and I both use the Vita-Paks from GNC..I use the Active Women and he uses the Men's Sport. I get protein from Wal-Mart. The best recipe I have found is 1 cup milk, 1 cup frozen fruit, 1 tablespoon flax seed and 2 scoops protein..blend together. I have this almost every day. I'm down 20 lbs in November and now in the process of building muscle mass.
WHISKEYSWAMP
Many years ago the protein shakes were not very tasty but they have come a long way. When I was into training harder than I am now I usually bought it from Saveonsupplements.com. They always seemed to have the best prices but I have not shopped around for a while. I usually bought Labrada Carb Watcher's Lean Body... the chocolate is very tasty alone but I usually mixed in instant oatmeal and or blueberries which actually made it worse but I wanted the extra nutrients. I also will mix a scoop of chocolate protein in with my morning oatmeal a couple times a week. Here is a couple links but you might want to check other prices, like I said I have not bought in a while. LETMGROW
6 - 8 12 oz. beers a night for right arm curls. Several trips to the bathroom to build up the leg muscles. Carry more beers up from the cellar with my left arm to balance the workout. Bend over to restock the fridge. Good for the abs and back.
