silvertip_co
I got pic of the campsite and here are the coords. We did not see any elk but our hiking was limited due to really heavy rains and hail in the high country we were in. Did find a wallow though while we was eating lunch. I could see it thru the trees so I put the binocs on it. Coords are for the best of three adjacent campsites we looked close at are : 37deg 13.55min north x 106deg 27.47min w. There is also a site west of this one thats pretty nice but sloping, and a huge one east of this one but too open. This middle site as we'll call it has some trees to block wind. As soon as I get the pics off my droid I'll try to figure out how to post it here. As I took a pic for each gps location. I got the pic loaded, aspen grove is to left and out of view in the foto. Also we got a business card for the guy who hauled elk out for 200.00 two yrs ago. And we went by and checked out cabin prices at Rocky Mtn Lodge, and we talked to the rancher at Lake Fork Ranch Outfitters and they also haul elk out but his price structure was way iffy( depends on this and that and the other thing, etc). Also he does not rent his horses out due to insurance. I wanted to stop at the gro store in Antonito as they cut up elk(according to Jeff B) but bypassed it in favor of some flyfishing at a high mtn lake above Cuchara. But the one local guy at Mogote Meadows where we stayed told me the gro store owners in Antonito are in fact big elk hunters and do cut up elk for folks. I guess I can call them to confirm. After I finish eating these trouts... Edited July 10, 2012 by silvertip_co add foto

texastrophies
Don't worry about it PDR, you can keep up with him, no problem.... if you are a mountain goat. You should start picking up rocks now to take with you.

pointing_dogs_rule
Quick question: Flights from Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Denver are $181.00. Really cheap. I put in the dates of Thursday the 18th to arrive & Sat the 27th to depart, as the following Monday is a busy day for me at work. Would these dates be acceptable. Planning on getting to camp later Thursday. I don't ......just want to fly in and out and leave a mess for others as I try to be considerate. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I would rent a vehicle in Denver and drive to the camp. A short stop in Colo. Springs to pick up some supplies. Once more thanks for your input. good luck to all the dog

I think Steve B plans on being in camp the 18th or so. I do too actually. I think my wife and a few others plan the same but not sure. Having done this there a few times it is better to arrive two days early. Supplies can be gotten at WM in Springs Pueblo and Alamosa. All three towns have them close to your travel route. There's a Safeway in Walsenburg and also a family market (they cut up elk) in Antonito tho I forget the name. Good luck on your trip. 181 is a great deal and saves tons of travel time. From DIA it's 5.5 hrs to my GPS coords.
pointing_dogs_rule
Sounds good. I think I am going to book that flight for $181.00 before it changes. Get into denver at 10 AM on thursday. Leave denver on the return trip at 4 PM. Should give me some time to get re-organized before I leave. Thanks for all of your help. good luck to all the dog

Steve thank you for the cot space in your tent. We had been looking for a while got a good deal and could not pass it up. Had a good time shooting with Charlie last weekend and planning a trip down to Platoro for Labor day weekend. Let me know Charlie if you and your wife want to go down that way. I plan on going down thee the night of the 18th and staying a couple days later in case we need to pack out etc. I still have to put in for leave so I hope I get it. pointing_dogs_rule
Well, the person who was suppose to haul all my stuff out to Colorado Springs, from Iowa has had a change of plans (I was going to fly out and pick up the stuff to save money). Now I gotta figure out how to get the stuff out there, or drive myself. Sure do like the $161.00 plane ticket idea and being there in 1 day. Hum??? good luck to all the dog

silvertip_co
As an update I have heard nothing more from the two Ohio guys, the farmer brothers, despite emailing them several times. Perhaps they've changed their minds. We hope to be in camp Fri afternoon the 19th, if we can get there before I will. Bought two atv's on Saturday but I can only haul one. If someone wants to haul the other I'd appreciate it. If not it's no problem. If you need to contact me for help or questions it's [email protected] for my cell number. I'm here for the group. Cowboy778 and I discussed camping there to scout over Labor Day weekend so I hope we can work that out. We both have campers we need to try out. My wife's all excited about that and we wanna put some miles on at least one atv. Edited August 13, 2012 by silvertip_co
pointing_dogs_rule
Well, one cousin backed out of this hunt, however, another has replaced him. My cousin who lives in Castle Rock, Coloado has decided to come along with us. He has hunted elk many times before. This will solve the car problem at the airport. We talked and it seems to work out best if we stay at his place Thursday night and then head to camp early so that we can be there by 9 AM on Friday to help set-up. I hope that this is acceptable..... if not please let me know. good luck to all the dog Edited August 17, 2012 by pointing_dogs_rule
cowboy778
anybody have any suggestions on what I need to dry camp in a 29' travel trailer for this hunt. I have been doing research and then main thing I am concentrating on now is insulating the potable, grey and black tank. Getting a generator soon and another battery. I am also looking into either a bladder for the back of the truck or containers. Going to conserve water and toilet breaks going to use nature as much as possible. Any other ideas? Glad another Cousin is not scared to hunt with us Dog
