tomturkeyteaser
Has anyone ever hunted public land turkey in west oklahoma? Headed to the Black kettke and packsaddle WMA in April..
abrown
I haven't hunted either, but I'd recommend looking for the most recent burn areas. We took a visit to Black Kettle once in my wildlife management class, the Range tech said he's shot turkeys when the area was still smoking. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. huntinsonovagun
Last season was my first. I was on both WMAs. It's no secret that there are a lot of birds out there. My advice would be to schedule in at least two days to figure out where the turkeys like to hang out (whether that's two days of hunting/scouting, or maybe two days before opener). I hunted three days last year and was starting to figure areas out when it was time to make the drive home. Definitely a do-able DIY hunt. Try to hunt weekdays as much as you can. I hear the weekends can get crowded.
